Although I am, admittedly, often prone to "bluster and hyperbole".... I say the next words in complete seriousness.
The Texas vs OSU game was fixed.
There should be an investigation, by someone.... And, I have great fear for where the findings would lead. I don't think this was the only game. I don't know how many people are IN on the fix. But, I am 99.99% certain.... This game was NEVER going to be won by Texas.
This game has shaken my fundamental trust in "the game" like none since the Chicago-Utah NBA Final.
I honestly dont don't know if I care to invest any more emotional capital into a system with a pre-determined outcome.

From beginning to end, there were phantom calls....always against Texas, and usually on big plays.. scores, or turnovers.
I don't think the "cabal" orchestrated the fumbled punt snap.... they're not THAT good (I hope). But, they would have found a way to affect things in overtime.
In the 4th quarter, OSU was completely unable to move the ball. Their QB that can throw had, apparently injured his hand or something. When he didn't fumble, he was throwing bad looking interceptions. So, they had their running QB in, and Texas was stacking the line with 9 people. They were doing good just to get back to the line of scrimmage.
When leading 27-24, with ~ 6 min left... Texas had a chance to make a drive to run out the clock. We picked up the crucial FIRST, first down, but had the play nullified due to an "inadvertent whistle". Really? Give me a break. When was the last time THAT happened. Eventually, we had to punt. No worries though... NO WAY OSU is going to move to FG range.
Well, they did... without ever picking up a first down. The refs called a defensive holding on our lineman, on a running play.... The replays showed there was NO WAY holding could/should be called. Our guy was actually blocked out of the play. Charlie Strong was livid. There had been at least 6 such "phantom" holding calls during this game. Two TD's had been called back on such calls. But, this last one.. on our defense? Was ridiculous... Apparently Charlie SAID something... because they flagged him for Unsportsmanlike. OSU gained 30 yards, into FG range, on these two calls. They gained no more, but... were able to tie up the game.
Texas had 16 penalties for 128 yards. Granted, some of them were just poor execution on our part. But, I'm telling... MOST of them were bullshit, totally phantom holding calls and occurred on game-changing plays. It was just not natural. One was an extremely weak roughing the passer penalty on an interception with a 50 yard run back... ie: a game changing play. 100% judgment call, that is NOT called 99% of the time.
Frankly, I'm seeing a lot this... in the college and pro level. Enough to send my "fraud sensors" off the chart. A scandal is out there, and... eventually... I think it blows open. There is too much money riding on these games for it not to happen. MAYBE, they'll be able to sweep it under the rug, the way the NBA did with their ref-buying scandal. I don't know.
But, I do know... On Saturday, in Austin... the refs had to make it pretty damn obvious to keep that game under control.

I didn't see the Texas game but officiating in general has been miserable the early part of the football season, both college and NFL. The Bengals game yesterday had 26 penalties and the Bengals had a TD taken off the board due to that ridiculous Megatron/Dez Bryant rule. Last week Andy Dalton got a favorable call on the tuck rule and last night Matthew Stafford did the exact same thing and it was called a fumble. But watch the replay of Tyler Eifert's catch in the second quarter and if that's not a TD, I don't know what you have to do. Fortunately AJ Green saved the day for the Bengals. (BTW, AJ Green is a beast!)
The problem is you have 55-65 year old men trying to keep up with college kids and in the NFL's case, some of the greatest athletes in the world, and they fail miserably. It's a joke. People don't go to games and tune in the television to watch Ed Hokuli and his fellow head referee's get all the facetime.

I don't agree Doc. Even when the fat old men watch the plays in slow motion, on replay.. they often get it wrong.
I think, they're doing it on purpose.
In the pro's, I believe there are selected games each week... where, they know the outcome. They pick just a few games, to avoid being TOO obvious. Just enough to blow the parlays and move the house advantage. Or, whoever's advantage.
In the Texas game, it might've just been T. Boone Pickens trying to make sure he can rub it in on his Texas friends. I don't know. I just know it smelled to high heaven.
