45-40 last year....
I thnk the point total will be considerably lower this year. Both of these defenses are playing well.
I like Clemson's chances in this game. But, they'll have to change a few things. The sweeps and flare passes that worked so well against Ohio State will NOT WORK against Bama's speed. I look for a slugfest.

I expect it to be just as tough as last year which is saying something.

It's set.
I feel like Dabo and crew learned a lot last year, and this team seems far more hungry and focused. Plus, no suspended or injured players.
Bama will be a tough out as they are so fast and disciplined, but I like our chances.
Agree with Bevo, first blush says there will not be 85 points scored this year.

First team to 10 points might win it.

First team to 10 points might win it. I think there's some truth to that this year... Clemson is in great position to win this game, but they have to conquer a legendary defense.... you've got to really like the match-up of the Clemson D to the Alabama offense....as long as the Tigers keep everything in front of them, and don't give up a big pass play to Ridley or OJ Howard, they should do a good job at shutting the Bama offense down. For the first time in forever, I think Alabama is finally facing a team that could flip the script on them of suffocating a team. Clemson was able to wear out the Alabama D last year but this year the D is better. That Clemson D is amazing though, and could keep Alabama to 3 and outs I think this is going to be one of the best National Championship games in awhile

This game feels a little Southern Cal - Texas (2005 BCS Title Game) to me. Southern Cal was the loaded favorite going for back to back titles but Texas had a great team led by Vince Young and won a close game. I think Clemson / Watson could do the same here. Not that I would ever bet against Saban. Going to be a fun one to watch.

ESPN had made USC an invincible machine that couldn't be beat Vince Young had matured that year and Texas was destroying teams...They beat Colorado 70-3 in the Big XII Championship I think the difference is you'd be foolish to overlook Clemson at this point...that was a legendary ass-whipping they put on the Buckeyes. Clemson, despite looking despondant this season, like they're sleep-walking through games, is loaded with NFL talent...they are more mature this season. Alabama's offense is weaker and looks vulnerable....but the Bama D themselves is legendary, and has established themselves as one of the best Ds in history I think this is going to be one of the best championship games we've seen in awhile....

The difference is, Texas hadn't lost ANY games since the middle of the previous year. Once Mack took the shackles off VY, there was NO STOPPING him. He reached "super-human" status... nirvana. USC never had a chance! :-)
I don't think Watson has reached that level, but... he's playing with a chip on his shoulder. He feels slighted and wants very badly to PROVE himself. Clemson has been thinking of NOTHING BUT this game for the past year. I think it's going to be epic. LARGER than epic.
I just HOPE the orange teams wins! It's worth $800 to me. :-)

Young grew up in that game and became the Texas legend he was meant to be 1 year later, in the same stadium, they win the championship

I watched it at my neighbor's house. He's a HUGE Buckeye fan... he later moved away from the hood. But, the game where it all TURNED ON for Vince was earlier in the season... against Oklahoma State. That's when he turned into SUPER VINCE!

That Clemson D is amazing though, and could keep Alabama to 3 and outs I think this is going to be one of the best National Championship games in awhile Hurts adds a running dimension to the game, which Clemson must prepare for, especially his cutbacks.
He can be problematic in the run game, and he has a strong arm. But he also has accuracy and decision making issues, and frequently puts the ball in jeopardy. He reminds me of Francois at FSU with his physical attributes combined with his lack of experience – he’s green and it often shows, even against mediocre defenses. Also, at times, reminds me of Marquis Williams/Everett Golson with some of his unforced errors (except his errors tend not to occur in critical situations, simply because Bama is rarely in any kind of critical situation). Clemson's defense could put Bama in critical situations.
Hopefully we can win the LOS, which will be the best approach to beating Bama, if we can do it. I fully expect us to be ready for what Hurts and Bama in general to the table on offense. I also expect Bama’s offense to be largely unchanged even with Sark taking the reins. At this late stage, it would be unwise for Bama to change anything other than a few wrinkles that any team would install in a regular week of practice. I expect they will simply tailor what they do best to test us where we are vulnerable. One thing is for sure – they will have a good game plan and will execute nearly flawlessly. We’ll simply have to match them with our game plan and execution. Sounds obvious, but I really see that as the bottom line, considering we’ve been uneven at times. If we play our best, we have the components in place to make life very, very difficult for Bama.
Both teams will be facing the best teams they have faced all season.
Sark likes to sling the ball around, just like Lane did. I’d go ahead and find a solution for O.J. Howard right now, if I’m Venables. Something tells me that until Clemson shows an ability to stop that, Bama will go back to the well on that...
Personally, I'm sending Sark a case of fine bourbon....a la Kevin Spacey in A Time to Kill.
