So, Hen? Where will Mike Houston be heading? Surely, he's now in demand from schools who can pay MUCH more? I haven't kept up on that Bevo. I've heard rumors and media speculation that JMU is looking at FBS classification.

All NCAA sports in all divisions, with the singular exception of FBS football, have regular seasons followed by an inclusive playoff that determines a real NCAA national champion. Yes! The MOST important thing in life is: For EVERYTHING to be EXACTLY the same. ZERO diversity. For sure, you're right. Just wondering: Do you eat the SAME thing every day, for every meal? I'm guessing, yes. So when it comes to team sports championships, Bevo, you're suggesting that the whole world including the whole NCAA is wrong and that the cartel has the only fair and virtuous championship system ?

Bevo, you're in fantasy land if you think so called G5 teams can just call up so called P5 programs and schedule any games they want...and that "Every Game Counts"..only select games count in the self serving mythical system of the Cartel....and you must truly believe that any team can just switch conference membership to any one of the, so called, P5 leagues anytime they want by just making a phone call. Hero posted the SEC phone #. Just call up that number and announce you're joining the league and bingo, instant SOS improvement, right ? Nothing to It. I don't understand why all the , so called, G5s don't do that immediately. As long as the post season , so called, playoff is EXclusive the regular season can't be 'meaningful'. Hen.. I'm not in Fantasy-land... 60% of the G5 are in Fantasy-land. (as well as 30% of the P5) They don't have what it takes. But, I give them credit for: Doing what THEY think is in their own best interest. I don't know if it's "short, or long" term. No.. you can't call up the SEC and DEMAND to be a member. But, the SEC will gladly tell you what is needed to BECOME a member. Schools can get in the Big 12 a little easier. But, it's still a pretty tough task. For teams that CAN'T meet the requirements to move to a p5 conference? They're going to have to accept an unbalanced schedule... at best 2 for 1. Maybe, even away only... Against GOOD teams..... That is, IF their goal is to actually COMPETE for the Top 4. However....Most KNOW they aren't really ready to compete for the TOP spots. They're only in it for the $$$. Once again, I give these schools credit for doing what's in their OWN best interest. If they KNOW they can't win against the best, then it makes NO SENSE to play against them. WINNING, against anyone.. is better than LOSING to anyone. These guys understand that, and can figure it out. It's a harder plan for G5 schools.... but, I don't think it's impossible. If they want it to be easier? They should drop back to the FCS. MUCH easier for them.

No Hen... I'm suggesting it MIGHT be OK for the Div1 FBS to have a different system from the REST of the world.. Given the FACT, that... their system is system IS different from the rest of the world. I'm not a fan of "One Size Fits All".

Well Bevo, friend, I read your last two posts carefully, especially the one about the percentages of NCAA D1 CF programs that are in "fantasy land"..I really don't know how to comment on your understanding of the sport. A couple questions to further clarify how you think :
A) Can you please list the 60% of the so called G5 teams that are in CF fantasy land and the 30% of the so called P5 teams that are in CF fantasy land ? Its important to understand which CF teams are fantasy land teams and which are not as we watch and follow this sport.
You admire and approve of the Cartel's championship system because it's 'different' from all the other team championships on the planet.(Being extremely exclusive vs all the rest being inclusive). B) Do you also admire the fact that FBS CF is the only team sport on planet Earth...any level, in which the championship of the sport is NOT awarded by the governing body of the sport or administered by the governing body of the sport...or do you sometimes think that the governing body of the sport maybe should have something to do with the championship of the sport it governs ?

Its important to understand which CF teams are fantasy land teams and which are not as we watch and follow this sport. Let me first explain what I mean by saying the teams are in "La La Land".... by that, I mean... they continue to play in the FBS when, in reality, there is VERY LITTLE CHANCE that they will EVER have a chance to play in the CFP and compete in the final steps for a National Championship. Actually, I was being very generous with my %'s... When you look at the ACTUAL number of teams that have EVER won ANY of the various "National Title" claims (and, this is the VERY broad definition).... It's 59 total teams. Of that number, 13 teams are no longer in the FBS. So, that leaves 46 teams. Of these, I only count THREE (I could be wrong, I looked fast... I have BYU, Navy, and Army?) that are G5 teams. That leaves 43 of the 65 P5 teams who have EVER had a sniff of a title. That's 66%. Only 3 of the 63 G5 teams have done so... that's less than 5%. By rule, NO ONE is excluded from the CFP. ANY team, theoretically, can make it. But what is the actual number who could DO what it takes? I quickly GUESSED 40% of P5 schools and 70% of P5 schools. The real numbers are probably much lower. You admire and approve of the Cartel's championship system because it's 'different' from all the other team championships on the planet.(Being extremely exclusive vs all the rest being inclusive). I wouldn't say I "admire" it.... But, I do LIKE it. Much more so than I used to: Before the BCS, and with the BCS. I don't feel a compelling need to change the entire structure of the sport, just to support a large playoff field. What we have with 4 seems to be working very well. I could possibly see going 8. But, NO MORE... and, I'm not even sure anymore that I want to do that. Again... I don't "admire" it. But, I'm not bothered by it. The teams that play in the FBS have a right to determine for themselves HOW (or even IF) they want to organize a Championship. The NCAA never stepped forward with a workable plan. The BCS guys, and CFP guys did. So far, it's working.

It's working to the extent that it does produce a CFP champion.
That is worth more than an Idaho Potato Bowl championship, but less than a real NCAA national championship.

worth ... less than a real NCAA national championship. By what measure?
NONE that I know of... that don't include "FHF and BH brownie points".

The four schools competing in the CFP are members of the NCAA. None will win an NCAA FBS national championship trophy.

Ok Bevo but I still wish you would list the official "LA LA Land" list of D1 FB programs...OR the official "Non LA LA Land" list of CF programs (second request). It would help some of us further understand the classification system of college football and we can thus enjoy the sport more. I checked the NCAA site but there was no mention of a "LA La Land" division or sub division so You may be the only source for this vital classification information. It shouldn't take that much time and effort...thanks !

As expected, you couldn't name ANY measure to prove "less value".....
NO TEAM, in the FBS... and, I mean.. NONE... would trade an FCS Championship for the right to own this CFP trophy. NOT ONE. If they would? They're in the wrong Division.

1. The CFP is an important championship, but it is less than a real NCAA national championship.
2. I did. You just didn't want to read it. See above.
3. As usual, you don't know that. The right question is which teams would prefer a CFP trophy over a real NCAA FBS national championship trophy. The NCAA trophy is for the champion of all of FBS, where the CFP trophy is for the champion of half of FBS.
What do you think? Would Donald Trump be content with being president of the states east of the Mississippi, or would he prefer to be president of all of the U.S.?

When all the smoke clears and all the debating runs out the CFP basically stands for the CARTEL FOOTBALL PLAYOFF ...bottom line reality.

For my two cents, the best systems are completely objective and allow all teams to control their destiny from the start of competition. The CFP, while an improvement, fails on both points. That said, I understand why some enjoy a format with a small margin of error. However, I also don't think it matters if its safe to assume some teams will never win or come close. What matters is simply having the opportunity. It is a safe bet that all P5 teams essentially control their destiny from the start of competition excluding very unlikely events occurring. The same is not true for G5 teams who are not provided a blueprint for making a four team playoff beyond unrealistic and vague demands that they play top P5 teams all on the road for an indefinite period of time. Ultimately, if the playoff isn't going to expand, then the committee must be replaced with an objective system. The only reason not to do this is so the P5 leagues can keep G5 leagues "in their place" and make it very difficult for them to beat a rigged system.

Again, CJH nicely articulates what a few of us truly comprehend about this unfair, self serving system.
IMO it is rooted in 1984 when BYU was awarded the make believe national championship. The power brokers , which have now become the 'Cartel', decided that we must come up with something to ensure that nothing like this would ever happen again.
