This thread is sort of a continuation of the CBSsports thread, but I'm grouping teams, and trying to go back as far as I can....my football memory starts in the early 80s though. Maybe people can help with the list
Legendary Teams Texas 2005 USC 2004 Miami 2001 FSU 1999 Alabama 2011 Alabama 2012 Florida 1996 Nebraska 1995 FSU 1993 Alabama 1992 Miami 1991 Washington 1991 Notre Dame 1988 Miami 1987 Clemson 1981 Georgia 1980
Solid National Championship Teams Florida 2008 FSU 2013 LSU 2003 Auburn 2010 Ohio State 2014 Clemson 2016 Alabama 2009, 2015 Oklahoma 2000 Michigan 1997 Nebraska 1994 Georgia Tech 1990 Miami 1989 Penn State 1986 Oklahoma 1985 Miami 1983 Penn State 1982
Weak National Championship Teams Nebraska 1997 Florida 2006 Ohio State 2002 Tennessee 1998 Colorado 1990 LSU 2007 BYU 1984

Yeah, the 2002 Ohio State team that went 14-0, beat a Miami team that was supposedly better than the 2001 Miami team and sent over 40 players to the NFL - including every starter on the team - was weak. In addition, Ohio State physically beat the hell out of that Miami team - Dorsey was so beat up he was hospitalized. Craig Krenzel, who was the leading rusher in the game, played golf with his family the next day. Putting Ohio State as a weak champion that year just shows how uninformed the person who compiled this list is.

I'm guessing you would have them in the "SOLID" group? Hey I've got LSU '07 in the WEAK group lol Doesn't the scale of the upset sort of lend itself to assuming Ohio State wasn't on par with Miami? How does the Ohio State '02 offense compare with other National Championship offenses? Hell, the Clemson '16 offense is way better

1) 2005 Texas ... UNBEATABLE! 2) 1969 Texas... Wishbone fever 3) 1963 Texas ... Tommy Nobis mean. 4) 1977 Texas (One that Hen says we won, and I didn't know.. even though I was attending school there) Earl Campbell and the boys... None other really compare.

None of these teams actually won a national championship. That aside, many, perhaps most, were the best team at the time in their division (subdivision).
1984 BYU has to be at or near the top, of course. For a non-power conference to be voted consensus #1, it had to be light years better than any other team.

Patience grasshopper. The truth will set you free. But first, you will have to remove your blinders.

O3 Delaware and 96 Marshall still remain the most dominant FCS champions, IMO.

Well, off hand without researching the roster Mike Adams, Colts CB and Andy Hall, Eagles QB ( GT transfer ) played on that team. What made UD 2003 so dominant was the defense. Here's how the Hens played through the Playoffs : First Round : 48-7 Quarter Final : 37-7 Semi Final : 24-9 Championship : 48-0 ......still the biggest slaughter in NCAA D1 champ game history That's an average 39-6 per game playoff run and a genuine 'earned' and 'proven' national championship

The 1992 Bama team had a far worse offense with a QB that barely completed 50% of his passes and was put up far less yards per game than tOSU 2002. Yet somehow they are classified as a great champion??? For the record Krenzel had a 140 QB rating far better than Barker. Then you have a Nebraska team in 1997 that just won its third title in 4 years goes undefeated in a dominating Bowl performance and somehow they are a bad champion??? Almost seems like these teams were picked out of a hat when they were assigned their championship status.

2003 USC team better MNC than LSU. 1972 USC, best team of all time, is missing from your lists.
