I'll roll the acting awards out 1 per day and finish the rest on Friday. Today's is the easiest to pick....
Best Supporting Actress
On December 29, I went to see Fences with our daughter. During her 'Academy Award moment' I turned to my daughter and said, "If that doesn't win Viola Davis an Academy Award, maybe the Oscars are too white." At that point I didn't know who would be nominated but there was no doubt she'd be one of them. I've now seen all the nominees for this category, Davis has swept all the other awards and if she doesn't win on Sunday they should fire all the voters. This is as sure a bet as you could possibly make. I rank them like this...
1. Viola Davis - Fences 2. Michelle Williams - Manchester By the Sea 3. Naomie Harris - Moonlight 4. Octavia Spencer - Hidden Figures 5. Nicole Kidman - Lion
Tomorrow - Best Supporting Actor...

Saw Manchester by the sea this weekend..... tough film to watch.
Also saw Carol. BETTER film to watch! :-)
Also saw.... (please don't pull my man-card, I had a solid ulterior motive in play)... 50 Shades Darker. I actually liked it better than the first one. But, wow... some of the dialogue was remarkably bad.

FYI>>> Just looking for something fun to watch on Netflix, MamaBevo and I watched Trading Places, with Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy. Hadn't seen it in a long time, and when I have... it's been the HEAVILY EDITED versions on regular TV. WOW... the original film was MUCH better. Jamie Lee Curtis gets nekkid several times in this movie.... Before the advent of fake boobs, she was a stunner. At one point in the movie, Don Ameche uses the "N-word".... we were both shocked. It seemed so out of place in a comedy. Eddie Murphy was hilarious throughout.... My favorite line is, when the old dudes first catch him, and put him in their car. He keeps screaming, "Let me out! Let me go!"...... Then, they started explaining where he'll live, and his butler, and car, and expense account..... then they asked if he still wants to leave, and Murphy... after considering for a moment... says: " No... I believe I can hang out with you dudes for a while".

Manchester by the Sea was definitely difficult to watch. Great performances but hard to walk out of the theater feeling uplifted. The next day we saw La La Land which was fun - nice to see a decent musical for a change.
Rooney Mara certainly has an interesting body of work - Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, Carol - I just saw Lion which was very good - and she has no problem getting nekkid, as well. 50 Shades of Gray is one we haven't seen - not sure my wife would want to see it. Right now she's reading Alexander Hamilton in preparation for the play this weekend in Chicago.
As for Eddie Murphy, my favorite by him is The Nutty Professor where he plays his entire family. I could watch the dinner season non-stop and laugh my ass off the entire time - his granny is priceless.
We're watching The People vs OJ Simpson on Netflix right now - it's not nearly as cheesy as I thought it would be. A couple other Netflix shows - Broadchurch and Better Call Saul - both very good. The lead actress in Broadchurch is outstanding.

My wife and I saw this in the theater in Charlotte the first weekend it was released. I believe we were the only white people in the theater...I have never laughed so hard in my life.

But, I thought they did a great job of re-creating the feeling from that time. Seemed to be pretty accurate portrayals. I've been watching " Z: The Beginning of everything" on Amazon... it's been good. A bit slow at times, but.... it's a good story. Interesting people. Also, as I mentioned... watching the 1980's Documentary on Netflix. It's heavily oriented to things that happened on TV. I laughed so hard at my wife last night. She kept saying, " I watched THAT show"... or, "I never watched THAT show".... I had to remind her, After 1983 at least, we pretty much watched the SAME shows! :-) I didn't have a basement with my own TV back then.
