This is NBC reporting, so... it's 50/50 whether it's true..... but... if it's correct? I LOVE the play. Trump has negotiated in good faith for a couple of weeks now. The time has come:
Vote, or live with ObamaCare.
This is a critical moment for the Trump Presidency.
30 years ago, when I was in the middle of a tough business negotiation... My CEO made what I thought was an "unreasonable request". It was received poorly. Both sides agreed to take a break to discuss. As we were nervously waiting, he told me..."Son, sometimes you just have to throw your dick on the table, and see who's is the biggest". I smiled, meekly... and said, "Well... you GOT me there". When we went back in, the other side caved. I never forgot it.
IMO, that's what Trump is doing here. He NEEDS this vote in the House. This vote, is NOT the "Final" vote... if this vote passes, it just keeps the bill moving. It will change in the Senate, and again in Conference. And then, there will be a FINAL vote. If this bill fails in the House? Trump will give up on the ObamaCare repeal and blame the GUTLESS Republicans. Trump will move on to Tax reform and other stuff... but, he'll be severely damaged.
I DOUBT, the House Republicans really want to put their goods on the table.
We'll see. This is a BIG power play. Momentous.
Will the "conservative" Republicans really be the ones to kill their General? I doubt it. Not yet, anyway.

Under the proposed House legislation, Obamacare wouldn't be repealed, much less replaced.
With Trump, it more about winning than about doing what is right for America. I would call his bluff in a heartbeat. Keeping Obamacare might not be such a bad thing. It is spiraling downward into oblivion on its own.
The one alternative that is not being considered is getting the federal government out of the business of micromanaging health insurance, and allowing the free market to work.
There might not ever be another opportunity. The biggest obstacle is a president who advocates universal health care.

It was never gonna happen.

Bunch of wimps... They won't even go on record as to where they stand. Sickening.
Ideologues held firm... We're going to have to wait for ObamaCare collapse, where many people will suffer.

Lessons learned: 1. Trump is not the master negotiator he would want us to believe. He failed miserably because the bill was deeply flawed. 2. A few conservative Republicans, standing firm on principle, saved us at least temporarily from a potential disaster. It isn't just about winning. It is about doing the right thing for America. 3. Trump's attempts at bullying conservative Republicans into voting for the bill failed. They were undeterred by his threats to field and campaign for candidates running against them, and by his threat to veto any future legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare. The emperor has no clothes.

The emperor has no clothes. 1. In your dreams. Trump has a lifetime of work at negotiations. If he never made another deal, he would still go down as a "master" 2. A few Republicans drove over the cliff with their flags flying high. They could have kept progress going in the right direction, moving the debate to to Senate. Instead, they decided to do exactly NOTHING. We're no better off today than yesterday. None. 3. They saw a man willing to work for a deal, but also willing to walk away. That won't hurt Trump in future negotiations. At the end, big Pussy Ryan saved them from having to take a side. But, Trump knows who they are.... And they WILL pay a price. The emperor hasn't even started meting out justice yet. They should be worried.

Trump is learning the hard way that negotiating business deals and negotiating political deals, including with foreign leaders, are two very different animals. He is beginning kindergarten, while Putin has completed his PhD. Congressional Democrats, with no power, have him befuddled. Conservative Republicans have shown no fear of him, and not much respect for him. Many Pelosi, for once, was right: Trump is making rookie mistakes. His overinflated ego has taken a big hit, and he will probably become a better leader because of it.
