Thumbs up: Bama had the most impressive performance against UGA. Underdog in hostile territory and they compeletely dominated the game. Florida win against Ole Miss was probably the biggest surprise of the weekend. Clemson was up to the task against ND and prime time win will do wonders for them. Oklahoma looked very good against a WVU unfortunately the win against Tennessee is not helping as much. Baylor TCU both took care of business Northwestern put it to Minnesota blanking them 27 - 0 and now have wins of Stanford and Duke who both have done well thus far. Iowa is 5 - 0 win Wisconsin was typical big 10 but they also have wins over Pitt and Iowa St TAM started to look like a legitimate competitor. It will be insetting when the heavyweight match up down the road. Michigan looks like a completely different team with a different attitude. Got a feeling they will have a big impact on the Big 10 East Stanford dominated Arizona and looks to be very complete from what I saw.
Thumbs Down: Texas - Sorry Bevo but they need some wholesale changes from what I have seen. Charlie Strong may be a great guy but that in no means indicates a great coach. Tennessee - Everybodies pick to be the surprise team in the SEC East drops one to Arky who has enough problems of there own. Nebraska - how many close games can you lose??? Based on what is going on at Illinois, this one is inexcusable. South Carolina - High Expectations and Low results. Is it time for Spurrior to go. I personally don't think he has the energy required to be an elite coach at this stage of his life UCLA - A lot of talk about them in the top four but that perception changed this weekend. Miami - After getting of to a good 3 - 0 start they take one on the chin in Ohio. Shows what the difference home field advantage is.

A big thumbs down to Michigan State, 24-21 over Purdue. MSU was #2, and is now #5 in the AP and #3 in the Coaches. Purdue had the ball in MSU territory in the final minute of the game.
I bemoaned Marshall's mediocre performance on this forum for its 10-point win over Purdue. Purdue also lost by 7 to Bowling Green.

Florida and Clemson sure made me proud. GG, I think you have a damn good coach now. I think Clemson probably took a few minutes off of TIGERCPA's life before they pulled out that monster win and staked a claim among the elite. Talking heads have been trying to talk Tennessee into being good for two years. I never have seen it.

That was a big stage for Clemson Saturday night. We dominated both lines of scrimmage. We were the more physical team. We executed better. We forced turnovers. We stopped them when the game was on the line by being bigger and badder on the line of scrimmage. In short, we played winning football, and it paid off.
I know a lot of Tiger fans were upset when Clemson went way conservative, and I was as well. It nearly cost us the game, and may cost us a game sometime this year. We all know that when Dabo gets a lead and our defense is dealing, we go old school Bama football (which is ground and pound conservative). Under Dabo, Clemson is 41-0 when we have the lead going into the 4th qtr. It’s not pretty, but you can’t argue with the results, although a prescription of Xanax also helps.
Chip BRIAN Kelly had the deer-in-the-headlights look when his team emerged from the dressing room and found a full house in a driving rainstorm.
What impressed me was the condition of the field, given it had been raining for days and days. Solid engineering and turf-grass management!!

Chip Kelly had the deer-in-the-headlights look when his team emerged from the dressing room and found a full house in a driving rainstorm. The 'deer in headlights' occurred when BRIAN Kelly went for 2 the first time. Had he kicked the point then, he would have only needed a point following the last TD - then you take your chances in OT. I guess he couldn't figure Clemson might kick a field goal. The final call was a stupid call as well. Don't get me wrong, I wanted Clemson to win - I abhor Notre Dame. You'd just expect more out of a genius like Kelly.

If Michigan St makes the thumbs down list then Ohio St is not too far behind. You also had LSU with a 6 point lead at half to probably the worst team in the MAC that could make the thumbs down list as well.

I hinted at this last week but following the weekend I think it bears follow-up. The top ten teams in the Big Ten have a combined record of 40-8. Four are undefeated, four have one loss and two have 2 losses. The combined records of the 8 teams they've lost to are 37-2....
Indiana lost to Ohio State... Minnesota lost to TCU and Northwestern... Wisconsin lost to Alabama and Iowa... Michigan lost to Utah... Illinois lost to UNC.... Penn State lost to Temple...
Five of the losses are to top 15 teams. As they play each other the records will obviously be less impressive but I think the Big ten is a fairly competitive league with better coaches than some on this board give them credit for.

Not sure who you're talking about. I talked a lot of trash about the B1G 2-3 years ago... They deserved it. But for the past two years, I've been saying they're getting better.
With Urban at OSU, and many improvements in coaching at other schools.. It's become a lot more competitive.

I think Meyer, Dantonio, Harbaugh, Fitzgerald, Frerentz and Wilson are solid coaches. Jerry Kill is pretty good. Not sure about Chryst, Riley and Franklin. Franklin has recruited well but i'm not sure about his game day coaching. I expect Rutgers to fire their coach. Maryland may get rid of their coach too if they keep losing. I don't have a good vibe for Daryl Hazel at Purdue - I think he deserves one more year but he may not get it. Illinois has an interim coach.

You had the line on Clem - ND at pick'em and that was right, I think the Vegas line shuffled from Clem -1 to Clem -2.5

Are you saying Michigan State was impressive this week? When Bama was number two I didn't think they deserved it and I said so here. When MSU made number two I thought they deserved it. All that being said, I agree with Herd...MSU did not impress this week.

Clearly, Texas WEAKENED Notre Dame!
Probably, as a result of all the partying they did after crushing us...

All I'm saying is the Big Ten has taken their share of criticism but given the stats I mentioned they are doing fairly well. It really doesn't matter - if you go undefeated you'll be in as FSU proved last year. If you lose then you're taking a big risk in not making it.

I'm starting to think Michigan will spoil Buckeye dreams this year
