you guys made me start thinking of one of my favorite instrumental songs... I thought it was a Big Band Era song, and I wasted 10 minutes looking for it. Lots of good songs in that group, but..... none were what I was remembering... it was this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=m34m6-YhjAcNow, I've got to go find sheet music for it, and learn to play it! :-)

That was Ray Stevens at his best.
Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Vicki Lawrence and Tim Conway performed a classic, and riotous, take on Stevens' version.

Festus can sing like Sinatra? If true, he was the best actor of the last century. When I was a kid, we always watched Gunsmoke... And I loved Festus.

Lol. True story. That is what makes it a great trivia question: "Curtis was a singer before moving into acting and combined both careers once he entered films. Curtis was with the Tommy Dorsey band in 1941, and succeeded Frank Sinatra as vocalist" "Ken Curtis joined the Sons of the Pioneers (the foremost Western vocal group in history) as a lead singer from 1949 to 1952. His big hits with the group included "Room Full of Roses" and "(Ghost) Riders in the Sky"." en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Curtis(With Roy Rogers) youtu.be/dhlpDbhurR0

Ken also played a lead sailor (Dolan) in "Mr.Roberts" good flick. I guess he was much older as Festus... that's why I never made the connection. What a great career.
