Yep, still is, IMO.
Biggest difference between College and Pro football.....
The Pats' season was equivalent to Clemson losing to FSU, Louisville, Boston College, NC State and still winning National Championship.
Pats lost to 5 teams that didn't make playoffs. Perfect example of why I don’t want the CFP expanded. The entire season matters.

Biggest difference between College and Pro football..... CFB cheerleaders are WAY hotter!
Basically, it's the same girls, in a state of suspended animation. ie; they never seem to age!

Uh - they won both their division and the conference championship (and were the number two seed in their conference), so would have won under an expanded or not expanded college system.

And yet we have Penn State, who won both their division and conference.... If there is one rule we've learned during the CFP years, it's "don''t lose 2 games".

The college football playoffs were better....the NFL playoffs were a dud, ripe with controversy
The NFL has problems....they need to get rid of the stupid byes among other things

Yes, the NFL needs to quit playing through bracketed elimination games and appoint some 'committee' ( not in any way affiliated with the National football League, of course) ) and let that committee have a closed door conference room beauty contest election to determine the final four. All sports should quit playing and start voting to determine their champions.
And please, please, men .....don't come back with the 'meaningfulness of the regular season' crap.

( not in any way affiliated with the National football League, of course) Besides the fact that, the "meaningfulness of the regular season is NOT crap".... that analogy above is not accurate.
The CFP committee is made up primarily of Athletic Directors from universities that are members of the NCAA. It's totally unfair to claim they are "in no way affiliated with the NCAA".... They are members of the NCAA.

Its more of having a champion that lost 5 games, or 31.25% of its games. Do we want a CFB national champion with 5 losses? I don't.

The historical data supports just picking the top 2 teams from each conference .

Fair point in part, Bevo. ( Condi Rice is NCAA ? and lots of "ex" NCAA people ) It's just not an NCAA selection committee or a selection committee appointed by the governing body of the sport...the NCAA which means the 'Invitatioinal;" is NOT an FBS NCAA championship event. It's a post season Bowl event.

That's enough for me.... and, for the vast majority of CF fans, I suspect.

If the CFP is an NCAA FBS championship the champion would have an NCAA national championship trophy to show for it. All it gets is a Dr.Pepper trophy. Sure the NCAA recognizes the winner of the CFP just like it recognizes the winner of the Famous Potato bowl and all the other assorted post season exhibitions including CF all star games.
Certainly agree about "vast majority" of CF fans buying the BCS or CFP or AP or UPI or all the assorted mythical championship systems over cf history as championships. That's why fans of other team sports including NCAA championship division fans think we're the dumbest, most gullible fans in sports.
NCAA national football champions for the 2018 season :
Division I - North Dakota State
Division II - Valdosta State
Divisuin III - Mary Hardin-Baylor
.....and none of them were awarded soft drink trophies for their trophy cases
