I took an English Literature course while at Alabama. The professor told us about having had Bart Starr in the same class. I felt an amazing and wonderful connection.
A sad day.

He didn’t do much, probably due to the craziness in coaching(and a back injury) leading to Bear Bryant returning in 1958. His claim to fame while at Bama was being number 2 in the nation as a punter.
The only QB with more NFL Championships is Brady. Starr remains the highest rated QB in post season rating. 104.8

Hah thats crazy I think Charlie Ward started out as a punter too...and then he went to play in the NBA

I think Sammy Baugh, HOF QB from way back, still holds the NFL career distance punting ave. record although haven't checked lately.
Bart Starr was nothing but class. He wasn't the most gifted but was the perfect QB for Lombardi's system just as Brady is for Belichick's.
No CF program has produced more legendary pro HOF QBs than Alabama.( Namath, Stabler & Starr )

I was thinking the same thing, Hen... Bart Starr = CLASS ACT.
We could use more like him today.
85 is a GOOD RUN in my book.
RIP Mr. Starr
