I wonder how GG is feeling right now? Pretty darn good, I expect. Also, probably a bit worried about having the face LSU next week. Auburn, then LSU.. in back to back weeks. Beat #7, then face #5... and #3 is coming up 2 weeks later. Nah, there's NO 'SEC gauntlet'. lol The Blue Hens would rip right through it.

That 'gauntlet' stuff works both ways, boys. The SEC is notorious for all the home rent-a-wins and lower division opponents....common knowledge. Even Saban says that crap should stop ( as he heads back to the office to schedule Mercer)

But, all big name schools have a couple of these on the schedule (Note: not all cupcakes have an FCS label on them). Having a week or two of cupcakes does not help a team NEARLY AS MUCH as playing two or three games in a row against TOP competition HURTS them.

The difference is that the SEC only has 8 league games where teams will play at most 1 OOC P5 game and they all schedule an FCS team. The B1G P12, and B12 all play 9 conference games and most teams usually schedule 1 OOC P5 game. The BIG now has a rule in place that they can't schedule FCS teams unless there are approved circumstances. Therefore when BAMA annual FCS game before the big rivalry game, schools in the B10 are playing other B10 schools.
Look at BAMA's schedule specifically where the bye weeks are at and where the FCS games are played. That is a clear advantage to what the B1G can do. Maybe that is the genious behind the SEC scheduling because it clearly does not hurt them when it comes to the selection process. Thanks to Tennessee and TCU backing out of a home and home series with the Buckeyes we have no OOC P5 games this year. Maybe that is the ticket to get back into the MCFP.

I definitely agree that it is inherently UNFAIR for one conference to only play 8 conference games while ALL the others play 9. If the SEC would play themselves a bit more, they'd be less likely to have two teams end the season with only 1 loss... (ie: CFP eligible) The unbalanced scheduling in all of these HUGE conferences drives me crazy. In the SEC, sometimes... (especially in the weaker EAST)… a team can breeze through the season really without playing ANYONE. Of course, they still have to play a CCG against the West Champion. Which means: A) The West Champ gets to play a weak team, or B) The East Champ gets a 1-game free shot at making the CFP.... maybe even making it with 1 loss in the SEC CCG. The SEC has been able to get away with it... (Stop me, if you've heard this before)… because the NCAA is totally incompetent at even the most basic of their duties: Fair competition. They succeed at it because, in MOST years, any team playing an SEC schedule will end up with a SOS that is as competitive with anybody else's. In past years, Ohio State didn't have this luxury. They NEEDED to play at least one, decent OOC game to boost their resume. That's probably not true anymore. The B1G, as a conference, has improved. OSU probably CAN make the CFP every year just by playing weak OOC teams, and running the table in the B1G. Their problem has been: they can't run the table in the B1G. I don't think they're going to have that problem this year. This team is starting to look like a "team of destiny". They aim to make up for some past sins. I think, OSU has been talented enough to win, or at least compete in the CFP several times when they weren't allowed to. Not "allowed" because of their own STUPID play in at least one game during the season. Time will tell... But, I like the feel of this team.

Specifically-SAGARIN-LAST YEAR BAMA PLAYED 8 TOP 30 TEAMS AND OHIO STATE PLAYED 3. Was Mississippi State really the #8 team in the country at 8-5? I believe Iowa beat them in their bowl game. It appears Sagarin has a few kinks in his system. In the final Amway Poll Alabama played 5 ranked teams and Ohio State played 4. (BTW, Mississippi State was #40.) Alabama got one extra game which obviously didn't go their way. Alabama was clearly one of the top 2 teams last year, no debate about it. i think our conversation is about this year and quite frankly, it's pretty much speculation until we get to the end of November. Right now there are about 10-12 teams that truly control their own destiny - that seems to be more than most years which is good. Win out and you're in, lose and you leave it to the mercy of those 13 guys in the conference room down in Grapevine.

you're counting the post season,Hero, for that inflated ranking stuff. Bama doesn't schedule post season games Bama, for such a powerhouse program, schedules very cowardly and pretty well avoids playing anything challenging on the road as a true visiting team.....common knowledge
True fact : since coaching in the SEC ( LSU/BAMA) 29% of Saban's regular season home wins have come against FCS and G5 teams...........nearly a third !
Cowardly OOC scheduling plus playing only 57% of your league opponents in any season is the SEC's very smart and safe way of negotiating the mythical system.

What good is that stat without comparing it against other coaches that are active today? Nearly all P5 schools play most, if not all of their Non-conference games against FCS or G5 teams. Sounds like Bama is winning damn near 100% of those games. Probably, a higher % than anyone else.
Saban's primary directive is to win the National Title. No one in FBS football has been better at it... ever.

How many top 30 teams did your favorite school play last year?

UCF schedules Florida A&M.
Boise St has 46 future games scheduled already - none are FCS.
