How can you explain a team looking listless for parts of two quarters and still muddling its way to eventual dominance?
this is a bit exagerated. They did start slow but they scored 27 points and gained close to 300 yards of offense in the second quarter which is more than MSU got the entire game. They tacked on a 3rd quarter TD and after that, game over. Don't do anything to allow the Spartans a cheap way back into the game, don't let your stars get hurt, keep the ball on the ground and run the clock. That's not listless, it's smart football. Time will hopefully tell if they can beat Clemson or Alabama or LSU - still half a season to play.

Ohio State still has Wisconsin, Penn State, and Michigan looming on the schedule along with a possible Big 10 Championship game (probably Wisconsin or Iowa)
Ohio State looks good...I've got them at #1. But that schedule is daunting
Beat all those teams, and then you get 2 round of Alabama/Georgia/Clemson/LSU/Oklahoma

Ohio State will END the Harbaugh era with an EPIC beatdown in the big house. Penn State will be a tough opponent. I wouldn't want to have to play Wisconsin twice... although, that stat Tiger showed about the # of 4/5 star recruits shows that Wisky doesn't have the same talent level. Or else, they develop talent WAYYYY better than anyone else. Maybe, Texas needs to import Wisconsin cheese?

I looked back to see when MSU had a really good QB (back to Kirk Cousins?) and wonder if that would help them get higher in the B1G....but then I think it's more their overall system is just outdated and stale?

Connor Cook actually had a pretty good career at MSU - and he was from Ohio.
Dantonio is an old school guy. Win running the ball and solid defense. Nothing fancy to their offense. Wisconsin is pretty much the same way. They don't get many 4 and 5 stars but they get tough, smart players who are very coachable and don't make many mistakes.

Plus, having to punt 7 times wears out a defense, especially when you have to go back out quickly and get steamrolled by Dobbins

That's why I admire the service academy teams plus HCs like Chryst, Cutcliffe, Shaw etc. and what they can accomplish.
....and why some of these teams often show up in SOH's

The thing is not all 4 and 5 star guys are dunderheads. Justin Fields had a 3.9 GPA in high school and scored a 29 on his ACT. That's just one example. But when the 4 and 5 star teams play to their potential it doesn't matter how disciplined the 3 star guys are, they're going to get whacked. They just get worn out and out talented. They 3 star guys are backed up by 2 star guys - the 4 and 5 star teams just roll out another 4 or 5 star. Chase Young takes a breather and Zach Harrison replaces him. Tuf Borland goes out and Baron Browning comes in. JK Dobbins gets a rest and Master Teague doesn't miss a beat. Attrition just takes over.

But Ohio State has a few weapons than Iowa and Justin Fields isn’t a statue. My biggest concern is the real possibility of having to beat Wisconsin twice.

Even though Michigan is awful this year, it's still a rivalry game. Always tough. But, that is the END of their season. They get a few weeks off after that.
