I read a story how Gus Malzahn made the point that he had never played at the Swamp before
Saban has also complained about the schedule as well
Why doesn't the SEC just go to 9 conference games. Fans would get better matchups than the additional cupcake weekend we get now

Why doesn't the SEC just go to 9 conference games. Simple. Because, not killing each other increases their chances of getting 2 teams into the CFP. The OTHER conferences need to DEMAND it. It's something the NCAA needs to require.

Fans would get better matchups than the additional cupcake weekend we get now The whole SEC cowardly scheduling ideology is based strictly on bowl eligibility....common knowledge....including the DPI bowls.
Saban says the right things about playing more conference games and scheduling only P5s for OOC games but right after saying these things he hurries back to the office scheduling Mercer and Citadel.....doesn't want to be at a competitive disadvantage. He has great influence and, imo, should lead the way in fixing the silly SEC scheduling ( and the ACC has caught on and is just about as bad )

I really don't care but if the committee wants things to be as equal as possible then teams should play the same amount of conference games and teams like Florida A+M, Mercer, Howard, The Citadel and the like should never be scheduled. Keep the games all within the FBS. You can find plenty of body bag games there - UTEP, New Mexico, Miami(O), Kent State, etc....

UCF in 2020 chose to schedule Florida A&M over Florida.

Yea... if only we had some kind of organizing body that could establish BASIC levels of fair standards.

Why change the most successful conference plan in college football?
Should the SEC Members imagine they will be loved by all if they do so? I think we all know better.
So I will ask again, why change? The more I think about it critically, the less I can see real possibility of a change by The SEC.

The governing body of the sport can't really do anything because the Alabamas and Floridas are the NCAA

Bull. The VAST majority of the NCAA has NO allegiance the SEC.
As Hero correctly pointed out, the SEC is not likely to change something that is working fabulously well for them. The other conferences are the ones that should be applying pressure, in the name of competitive fairness.
I can't say I fully understand why the NCAA is so completely incompetent. My guess is, it's something with the way their rules are set up. That, and ALL these guys are pulling down high six figure salaries, and just prefer to do NOTHING That might rock the boat, create controversy, and draw attention to how much they are earning.
When Louisville's BBall scandals hit, the local media finally started running stories on how OBSCENE the salary was for their AD, Tom Jurich. He was the HIGEST PAID AD in the United States. He was fired within a week.
The only organization I know of that can compete with the NCAA in incompetence is... the United Nations.

Heck yeah, the SEC is mad at SCjr for beating UGA and possibly costing the conference $25 million.

Creampuff scheduling works for power programs well beyond the SEC, Bevo, in this system, and all those powers are members of the association ( the last 'A' in NCAA ) The National Collegiate Athletic Association is just that--an association of member schools....not a group of administrators in a conference room. The membership would have to want a change in scheduling .
