I can’t think of anything dumber than trying to compare football teams that played 120+ years apart. 10000% correct, but folks have fun with it.
For sports time traveling and comparing I was thinking maybe 2019 LSU and 1909 Yale could meet halfway in time which would be playing a game in 1964.
None of the LSU players were even born so those unborn kids would be a pushover
The Yale players would be 75-77 years old and those still alive in 1964 would probably dominate the LSU non existent kids although it might take the old farts about 5 minutes to hobble 100 yards. The Yale RB maybe could , with the help of a cane, walk into the end zone once a quarter and someone else hobble in for the 2 Pt conversion . Its unlikely anyone could kick a PAT.
Therefore , on a perfect chronologically NEUTRAL field 1909 Yale beats 2019 LSU 28-0
It would be like Georgia Tech vs Cumberland.

If the 1992 Alabama team that ended The Miami Dynasty is not on the list I don’t know what to make of it.

> Maybe recreating the list solely for FBS teams would make better sense
All of these teams were the equivalent of what is now FBS.
FWIW, it is VERY difficult to compare teams from one year to the next. There is exactly zero context (i.e., not a single 2019 team played any team from 2018, for example). In my historical database there is a very minute context in that all of the non-rated teams (regardless of year) are lumped together into a single Wild Card U team. That being said, you are looking at performance against the opposition and trying to put those performances together with some level of consistency. There is no question that athletes are bigger, stronger, etc. Top teams from today would obliterate top teams from even 20 years ago. We are not trying to say who would win if those athletes played, but rather are comparing resumes. There is a built-in advantage to modern team in that they play more games. There are now two 15-0 teams and until a few years ago, 15-0 wasn't even possible.

Both Yale and Penn played a few 15 game seasons in the 1890s. In 1889 Yale as 16-1
