This is my All-Time top 10, weighted heavily to teams I have seen with my own eyes, and based on teams that have had noticeable strengths outside of just being the best team for a given year. I also limited it to just one entry per school, as overrepresenting one school might under-represent others. All teams were undefeated except for Alabama 2011 and Florida 2008. They are special cases IMO, as I will explain.
1. Texas 2005
All around a complete team, that notched several impressive wins including dethroning USC 2005, arguably one of the best offenses ever. Vince Young was the weapon that destroyed teams though. Sometimes he didn't look very fast, but would look very smooth in gaining massive chunks of yards. There is a legendary quality to this team.
2. LSU 2019
Without a doubt, one of the best offenses ever seen in college football. Joe Burrow was amazing and could beat a team in many ways. Not only did they beat people, but they broke records doing it. They beat a record amount of top teams, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Texas, Oklahoma, and Clemson.
3. Nebraska 1995
This Nebraska team was the epitome of the option attack and the Tom Osbourne gameplan. They were physical and pounding; they had an NFL-esque running back, and a super talented option QB in Frazier. They defense was aggressive and physical.
4. Alabama 2011
Best defense ever IMO. They had to have two chances to overcome another great defense in LSU 2011, in what should be seen as a battle of Titans, but the Crimson Tide prevailed with a shutout in the National Championship game. All of the Alabama teams have been great, but the sheer power of that defense sticks out in my mind.
5. Miami 2001
I think the NFL draft pick argument is overrated, but Miami 2001 truly was loaded with exceptional talent at all positions. They wete one of the most complete teams ever.
6. Florida State 1999
FSU 1999 was Bobby Bowden's best team, and proved it with an undefeated season going wire to wire. A future heisman QB in Weinke, a stud WR in Peter Warrick, a kicker that could probably have played LB, and a loaded defense delivered the top Noles team.
7. USC 2004
Matt Leinart, Reggie Bush, and Lendale White propelled a USC team to win it all, going wire to wire. The 2004 Trojans were an offensive machine.
8. Clemson 2018
First 15-0 team, led by a devastating defense with an incredible defensive line, and a young stud QB with a lot of young talent on offense. Clemson rolled through everyone and completely devastated their playoff opponents.
9. Florida 2008
Tim Tebow was one of the best QBs ever in college football, and he peaked in 2008 with a National Championship. What made Tebow so great? He was one of the best leaders ever, and really willed his teams to win. They ended their season with an epic win over #1 Alabama, and then over #2 Oklahoma in the championship game. They absolutely destroyed their rivals that year, including blowouts of Tennessee, LSU, Miami, FSU, and Georgia.
10. Notre Dame 1988
Notre Dame '88 was a special team with special players destined for a special season. Led by star players Tony Rice and Rocket Ismail, the Irish won the famous "Catholics vs. Convicts" game, dethroning defending National Champions Miami. Later, they won a #1 vs. #2 game against USC, and finished off an undefeated West Virginia in the Fiesta Bowl to go undefeated and win a National Championship for Lou Holtz.
