Jameson Williams, who was a starter and caught a 40+ yard TD against Clemson in the NC semi final this past season, has entered the transfer portal. He had been replaced by Jaxon Smith-Njigba in the spring on first team and there was a strong chance he could slip to 3rd team with the arrival of Freshman receivers Emeka Egbuka and Marvin Harrison Jr. He's originally from Missouri - another Buckeye receiver, Mookie Cooper, recently transferred to Missou. Should Williams follow suit, the Tigers will be adding two pretty solid receivers. Best wishes to Jameson, he was always smiling and a great Buckeye team mate, had Olave gone to the draft he'd probably still be on the team. The WR room at Ohio State is just a wealth of talent.

Clemson has same problem in RB room.
Too many good backs fighting for snaps/carries.
Just lost one to portal.

I think this new free agency will be bad for players.

I think this new free agency will be bad for players. yeah - I’m not a big fan of the transfer portal but it’s a reflection of our society today. Instead of sticking it out, working hard and proving you deserve to start they’ve made it too easy to just go somewhere else. And I have to believe in some cases there’s some recruiting going on before a player even declares he’s in the portal. I know it’s women’s basketball but OSU just lost two players who started just about every game and we’re leading scorers to Connecticut and Texas A+M, 2 of the top 5 women’s teams. That’s crazy - why didn’t they just go there to start?

It seems like Ohio State replaces 25% of their players every year from the transfer portal. I thought last year we brought in at least 3 guys. Jallow is out this year not sure about who else.
The way it is shaping in football the players who develop and become 5 stars on good teams will find there way to better programs. The 4 and 5 stars on top programs who don't develop and get the playing will drop down to teams where they get to play. I understand from a players perspective that they just want to play but the way this is going there is going to be a bigger gap from the top 3 or 4 and the rest.

One example of the portal working was: Shane Buechelle and Sam Ehlinger. BOTH were at Texas. They BOTH are clearly starting caliber QB's. Personally, I thought Shane was better, as a leader. But, Sam was great too.
Shane transferred to SMU and had slightly better stats than Sam. Both were outstanding.
It's good for them that they both got to play. Yes, it would have helped Texas to have both. Sam missed a couple of games to injury. But, neither of these guys is likely to start much in the NFL. I'm glad they both had the chance to excel at the college level.

The way that I view the portal is similar to the way I view working at any job. If you are in a job and you are not satisfied with your salary, work environment, boss.... then it is up to you to put yourself in a better situation. This can be done by addressing your current situation and seek to make changes or perhaps look externally for better opportunities. I have seen way too many people constantly complain about their jobs but choose to do nothing about it. From a college scholarship perspective they can't switch teams mid season. So they at least have to honor the scholarship offer and considering it is renewed every year it seems pretty fair.
Is it good for College Football. For Bama, Clemson, OSU, and probably Oklahoma YES. For the other 130 programs NO. As long as there are only a 4 team CFP you can expect 3 spots to the 4 and 1 spot for the remaining 130. Therefore if you want to get into the playoffs as a player you better find your way into one of the 4 programs.

The best advantage smaller schools have is, to recruit a 3 star who turns into a beast. Now, these guys can easily choose, if they want to, to move to a bigger named program to get more exposure.

Jameson Williams pretty much shows you the level of talent at the WR spot at tOSU he was looking to be anywhere from number 4 to number 7 after starting last year at tOSU. He left for greener pastures in terms of playing time which turns out to be Alabama. He would likely be a starter at every college in the country besides Ohio State. Another case where the rich keep getting richer.

So are you saying this is FAKE NEWS? Who is RJ Young? If Saban had his pick of Ohio State receivers With all due respect Williams would probably be the 8th or 9th option.

So are you saying this is FAKE NEWS? Nope, just noting that Ohio State has more WR talent than anyone in the country. It happens, players get out-recruited at their position and don't like being demoted from the starting unit.

It happens, players get out-recruited at their position and don't like being demoted from the starting unit. It is going to be very interesting next year. Alabama lost a lot of high end talent to the draft with both receivers and QB position taking a big hit. Ohio State last the same number (10) as Alabama to the draft but were spread out through all rounds where Bama was top heavy. I think Clemson only lost 5 and already has a proven QB to step in for Lawrence. I do think tOSU has some very good potential at the QB position and it certainly helps with the receiving corp they have. Of the 3 teams I see Alabama having the toughest time to get to the CFP. Typically it is 3 of the 4 that get in. If I were to pick today I would go with Okalhoma, tOSU, and Clemson. That pretty much guarantees an SEC non Alabama team gets in.

I'd never bet against Alabama making the playoff. And I think Oklahoma is getting a lot of credit for beating a Florida team that had a good number of opt outs and really showed no interest in being at their bowl game. At the same time, the Sooners non-conference schedule is tremendously week so they pretty much have walkovers until they get to Texas who will be breaking in a new coach/system.
