Read some things regarding conference expansion that seem to make some sense. ACC and B12 Should work together to build better conferences One thought is to get both to 16 teams. ACC Picks up Cinti and WVU. Both teams have natural rivals in the ACC with Louisville and Pitt. B12 Picks up Oregon Wash, AZ AZ St Utah and Colorado
In this case we get 4 16 team conferences. Wash St Or St Cal and Stanford are all hung out to dry.
If ND would ever join a conference there is a good chance Stanford gets in the mix

I think what they really need is flagship schools that are football first if they want to have any chance to stay close to the SEC and Big 10
I'd look at some combination of Kansas, Utah, and Colorado, all state flagships that are AAU. Add them, and then maybe add a Texas school like Houston, and you'd have an effective west wing
However, I don't think the ACC is going to do anything...they have suffered from really weak, inept leadership

Good point on the UC WVU additions. I do think getting to 16 teams puts the ACC in a better place though.

I think ACC is shaking in its shoes that they will soon be raided.

I think ACC is shaking in its shoes that they will soon be raided. I don't see the B10 doing it but I would think that Clemson, FSU, and Miami have a lot of appeal to the SEC

Cincinnati busted their asses to get into the Big 12 - I think they’ll stay there.

There are new reports leaking out today about the CFP groups pulling away from the NCAA.
The reports I saw said they wanted to organize a 16-team post-season Tourney. That confuses me. If they were going to do that, why not STAY in the NCAA?
I guess, they want 16 teams that don't HAVE To include ever Champion of every podunk conference??

There are 78 college football playing conferences in the US. Would you please list the non- "podunk" ones. Bevo ? Thanks

I fully expect that, every year, the Champ of one or more of these conferences will deserve to be in a Top 16 playoff. But, from year to year, we can't predict which teams those will be. Giving them ALL an auto-bid will generally be a waste of at least 3 precious spots.

Just answer the question, please. Of the 78 football playing college conferences which are not 'podunk' ? simple question, Bevo.

The Big 10 would like FSU, Miami, and Georgia Tech

The only reason the ACC hasn't been raided yet is their GOR runs through 2036(!) It was an awful 20-year deal that locks everyone together for way too long. They will fall further and further behind the SEC and Big Ten financially until they are put out of their misery as we get closer to 2036. A few years before then, their top brands will go to either the SEC or Big Ten much like UT & OU left the Big 12 a few years prior to their deal running out and USC & UCLA a few years before the P12 deal ran out.
FSU, Clemson, UNC, and UVA will leave for sure. VaTech most likely too. Duke will have to hope that UNC demands they come too. Miami and GaTech maybe, but not guaranteed. The remaining six of NC St, Wake, BC, Syracuse, Pitt, Lville will be in trouble.

Just answer the question, please. Of the 78 football playing college conferences which are not 'podunk' ? simple question, Bevo. My apologies Hen. I didn't read your question correctly. To be considered "non-podunk" as a conference, I would say the CONFERENCE AVERAGE Athletic budget needs to exceed $100 Million per year. Note: this is 2019 data. It's probably higher than that now. ONLY the P5 conference meet this threshold. The BEST G5 conference is about HALF this level. Again... I feel compelled to say: I intend NO slight on the G5 schools. They are doing the best they can. And, in some cases, the coaching and 'intangibles' make them better than MANY P5 programs. But their overall level of competition is VERY CLEARLY lower. They shouldn't be expected to compete against schools with higher budgets, nor granted auto-bids, into playoffs against teams at the higher level. Football is organized in leagues of comparable resources at every level before the NFL. Why shouldn't the P5 and G5 be split when there is such a clear difference in performance? It's really not close. I would watch a G5 playoff, just as I watch High School playoffs, and D3 playoffs. It's MORE interesting when the competition level is balanced. As you know, MANY great NFL players come from the lower NCAA Divisions. That alone makes it interesting to watch. I just like seeing FAIR competition.

So the Bevo answer to the simple question of what conferences are not 'podunk' is SEC,B10, B12, P12 and ACC. That's 5 out of 78 conferences playing CF in the US. That means 93.6% of all college football played in the nation is 'podunk'
interesting ...thanks
