The SOTU response was weird, and I almost felt bad for her as just some throw away pawn for the republicans. Not a great showing for them. But in her speech she talked at length about a victim of sex trafficking, making it sound like it happened recently, because of Biden, near the border and in the United States. But apparently it happened 20 years ago in Mexico? x.com/NickKnudsenUS/status/1766308578904998127?s=20

To be fair, I did not expect a genuine response from you. Yes, politicians lie. But lying about a story of sex trafficking and rape for political gain? On a such a big stage? Surely you don’t defend this? You make a great point though… this was twenty years ago. Surely it is worse now. Why fabricate a narrative from 20 years ago if it is worse now?

I focus on ISSUES, not PEOPLE. Her testimony, true or not, is small potatoes compared to what we see now across the world regarding human trafficking.

I agree that it is about issues and not people. This stage is given to the opposition party to communicate issues, but instead they chose to lie about the issues? I’m not expecting you to be a Katie Britt expert. I’m expecting you to flex your “both sides are awful” muscle and dismiss or condone such lies. I think those muscles only flex in one way.

So, what was her big lie? She never said the woman she spoke with was trafficked now, under Biden’s watch. She said she spoke with a “woman” who was trafficked when she was 12. Ie: some years ago.
That woman is an activist today, trying to bring attention to the trafficking that IS happening, today.. more than it was 4 years ago.
Does anyone really want to deny that it’s happening now? That’s what Britt was trying to draw attention to.
Her performance was not good. She overly-emoted and came off sounding patronizing. But, her message was on point. She’s young. She’ll get better.
The RNC screwed up a great chance here. They should have had Trump give the rebuttal.

She was trying to draw attention to it as if it were a consequence of Biden, strongly suggesting it happened in the USA: “We wouldn’t be OK with this happening in a Third World country; this is the United States of America” She wasn’t using it to bring attention to sex trafficking. She was using it to create an emotional response to illustrate Biden’s “border crisis”, which she referenced immediately both before and after.

But was it a lie? My take of her issue, in real time, was that this had occurred when the woman was 12, meaning it occurred some time ago. The point was that trafficking is much worse now with an open border.

Yes, her entire response was overly emotional, probably by design. It was likely targeted to soccer moms / wine moms in swing states, who typically vote on emotion not logic or issues.

It was targeted toward all republicans. There is no common sense, just emotion: fear and xenophobia. Campaign on an issue you refuse to solve so you can continue to campaign on it.

I think we can agree that both sides do that masterfully. In the case of the border, the supposed "strongest ever border bill" (LOL) republicans had [previously submitted an acutally tough border bill, But it's been on SChumer's desk for months. An actual border bill, about the border...with no provisions for studies on ketchup preferences for lesbians, or Ukraine funding, etc. Wasn't it SChumer that didn't want the gay marriage issue solved for that very reason?
