This morning, as I walked out of my hotel, I saw this HEADLINE on the USA Today: "FEW CHARTER SCHOOL GRADS EARN DEGREES".
That headline bothered me, all day... What could it mean? Are Charter Schools bad? Are they corrupt? What the hell?
Just now, I read the story... It's basically an article about charter schools in Los Angeles... How, they "boast eye-popping statistics: 95% of low income students graduate from High School and go to college". But then, only 25% of these students end up earning a college degree. Dang... that sounds pretty bad.
Then, 6 paragraphs in, you get to the "truth". Yes, only 25% of charter school graduates earn a college degree. But, in regular PUBLIC High Schools, having the same kind of students (low-income, high minority)... The rate is even worse! Only 9%!!! Charter schools do 177% BETTER... but, this article's headline is designed to TRASH Charter schools..... a system Championed by Trump's new education Secretary. The article goes on to say, the Charter school (private) administrators admit they think they need to do better. This, is their goal for the next 10 years. But, they're already beating the crap out of public (government run) schools.
Who among us doesn't want WHATEVER the best system is, for our kids?? I'll take ANY system that promises improvement. Not USA Today. They actively work to bury the facts, just to push an agenda that is beholden to teacher's unions, not to kids.
This is the kind of crap that just makes me sick.

There is a lot to be negative concerning education these days. The media doesn't want to be left out and they know most won't read the article or do the math.

what is a USA Today??? is that an app?? No... It's a collection of colorful paper that they GIVE AWAY (for free) at Holiday Inn hotels every day. It does, at least... have a TV guide on one page. So, for that reason, it can be worth picking up

DeVos will have to be careful that the left doesn't pull the same playbook used in Ohio re: charter schools.
Certain charter schools (race-based) were given near immediate approval and design to fail, so they could be pointed to as "reasons not to do charter schools...
