The correct answer is that NOTHING was stopping Trump from bombing the hell out of and obliterating the ISIS convoy
All actions have consequences. I trust that Trump and his advisors weighed the various options and made a decision consistent with their overall strategy.
I'm also pretty confident that this strategy is better than Obama's... at least, it seems to be far more successful thus far.
The only thing that stopped Trump was his lack of resolve to defend America’s vital security interests.
Obama allowed free passage for ISIS terrorists across open desert. As a consequence, ISIS had the opportunity to regroup, strengthen and spread terrorism throughout northern Iraq, north Africa and Europe. Obama’s decision put U.S. security at greater risk.
Trump allowed free passage for ISIS terrorists across open desert. As a consequence, ISIS now has the opportunity to spread terrorism throughout the Middle East and throughout Europe. Trump’s decision put U.S. security at greater risk.
Reagan listened to the naysayers among his advisors, and still chose to proceed with his historic speech at the Brandenburg Gate. The Berlin Wall fell a few years later, followed by the dissolution of the Soviet Union. I don’t believe either event would have occurred if not for Reagan’s speech at the Brandenburg Gate.
Reagan listened to the naysayers among his advisors and still chose to order the bombing of Khadafi’s compound, with full knowledge and understanding that women and children were present. Khadafi ended his campaign of terrorism and his efforts to develop and acquire weapons of mass destruction.
It would be asking too much to expect for Trump to be another Reagan in dealing with evil doers. However, I certainly didn’t expect him to become another Obama.
