16 is dilutive. This isn't basketball where one player can carry a team. The 1st time the 16th seed won (say an 8-4 Arizona State became the "FBS Tournament Champion"), there would be screams to do away with it. Your answer is cast in stone in history. How many times have teams seeded below #8 advanced to the quarterfinals in FBS, D-II and D-III playoffs?

It's not obvious at all at this point. If Wisconsin and OU win this weekend, 4 will be the PERFECT number. In each of the other CFP years so far, 4 has been plenty... or, even MORE than needed. Last year, for instance, 2 was the perfect number. If TCU wins this Saturday... If Wisconsin and OU win this weekend... If, if, if... If? Well, yea. We're in "de facto playoffs" now. Teams can play their way to the next round, or lose their way out. There are "If, if's" in structured format playoffs too. Who plays next week? Well, X does... IF... they win. Little difference.

For all the folks clamoring for an 8 team playoff....you've got it this weekend.

Therefore if the 8 team playoff quarter final games tomorrow determine the Semi-finalists there is absolutely zero chance that Alabama can advance to the semi-finals ,right ? ..since Bama is not playing in the quarter finals

If the right teams lose? Then Bama is back in the mix, being compared against teams with equivalent, or worse overall records. What's wrong with that?

There is no "right team" in a national quarterfinal elimination game. There is only a winner and loser. The winner automatically advances to the national semifinals... I've never heard of any national team quarterfinal competition in any sport in which only the "right" team gets to advance or lose and go home. This 'Right team " only crap is why these games are NOT national quarterfinals and why the system remains mythical.

This 'Right team " only crap is why these games are NOT national quarterfinals and why the system remains mythical. I'm not talking "right team" in the sense of a "preferred team"... It's just, various teams (because of their record to date) are in different positions. OU and Wisconsin, BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY HAVE ALREADY PLAYED, are in a different position. They KNOW they will be in the CFP if they win today. Good for them. Other teams, like Ohio State and TCU, BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY HAVE ALREADY PLAYED, have no such guarantee... but, they know, IF they win, they'll be in very small group of teams that MIGHT make it. That's the way this system works. It's not criminal. It's just different. It make the games today highly compelling. And, THAT is what REALLY matters. People WANT to watch.

The conspiracy nut inside me is angry: The refs let OU o-lineman hold at will in the first half. FIRST holding call of the game comes on a 55 yard play for TCU, and it was LAME.
It's almost as if "The Cartel" Hen speaks of has pre-determined a Sooner win?
