1) Alabama vs 4) West Virginia 2 Clemson vs 3) Michigan the problem with West Virginia is the ugly loss to Iowa State...that pretty much eliminates them.
Oklahoma could make it back in the discussion if Notre Dame implodes down the stretch
Washington State is also an interesting team. They could make it if they win out and ND loses twice and Oklahoma loses again.
That's basically it though for the playoff...Clemson is a Boston College win away from punching their ticket. Michigan is rolling. Alabama is going to win out

The Big12 was the big loser yesterday.
Texas lost and OU won really ugly. Gave up 40+ points, 500 yards and lots of penalties.
Neither looks like a top4 team right now.

I think West Virginia has a shot, but ONLY if ND loses.... And frankly, I don't see anyone left on their schedule who can do it.
A late loss, is worse than a mid-season ugly loss to a conference opponent.

I'm still of the belief someome will knock off Notre Dame......and I completely understand the national perceptions of West Virginia and Notre Dame comparatively, and why some might think 1 loss Notre Dame woukd get in over a 1 loss West Virginia...... But from what the talking heads have been saying about Notre Dame I dont think thats the case. I think Notre Dame needs to be unbeaten to make the CFP, especially if West Virginia has wins over Texas&Oklahoma and avenges their conference loss in the conference championship game vs Iowa State.

So the Playoff would look like this 1)Alabama vs 4) Michigan: which I look at this matchup and I think.....Michigan will actually be a tougher matchup for Alabama than Notre Dame. I absolutely believe Michigan's defense can slow Alabama's offense down to the extent LSU did.....the question will be.....can they score enough points? I think Michigan Alabama would be far more competitive with the Tide winning 31-17 Clemson-Notre Dame would actually be the true ACC title game matchup.....and actually think Notre Dame matches up much better with Clemson than the slaughter that would be produced by Alabama-Notre Dame. I think Clemson still wins 34-20 37-20 somewhere around there....but I think if the commitee actually ranks them appropriately the semi finals will be watchable......if notre dame wins out.

And it would be nice for Bama to have the opportunity to catch up to ND a little bit in that one sided series.

No, probably more like a 55-54 loss.
Playing a team like UCF in a bowl game is the worst nightmare for a P5 school. It's a "NO WIN" situation. You can't gain any credit for winning, but you get immortalized forever if you lose.

UCF plays in a P6 conference.
That's how they sell it on TV.
