I'm not sure how to value a committee ranking outside the Top 4? I'm thinking, maybe they had to do that to get UGA to the Sugar Bowl, where they wanted the matchup with Texas??? But, truly... I don't know. As I said, I don't see any other justification?? Anyway, these are some of the reasons the I have a hard time accepting the current system as a true national championship. Sure it is clearly better than the BCS but there are way too many legitimate contenders being left on the outside primarily based on the committees interpretation of which mulligan they like the best. Fair enough... I can certainly understand that point of view. To me, it might be 'unsatisfying', but.... the current system is the system to which all the competitors (or, at least, their representatives) have agreed as the method of determining a Champion. So, when there IS one, I accept it. I do like your blast from the past that has 8 teams 5 conference champs and 1 G5 and 2 At Large bids. Originally I would probably been against that because it opens the door to a 4 loss team but based on what we have now, that system would be light years better. I would like it because, it would give EVERY P5 team a clear path to be included in the playoff, without ANY voting, or beauty contest. The same couldn't be said about the G5 teams. But, that doesn't bother me. They still have a shot at "free roll" into the Big League tourney. They should be happy with that, or go have their OWN post season tourney. Sadly, it can't happen. The ONLY way to prevent one rogue school from launching an anti-trust suit is, the continue this pretense that "ALL teams have an equal chance". It's BS... but, not technically provable with the current setup. Hence, no lawsuits.

The commmitte did get justified in selecting the Buckeyes however. In my opinion College Football's playoff is an easy fix
Teams 1&2 are usually pretty easy to spot
Last year was an exception as there would have been a debate between Clemson and Ohio State, but I think in my playoff the Buckeyes would have been 2 due to the overall weakness of the ACC. So the playoff under my scenario would have been.

So the playoff under my scenario would have been. 3) Clemson vs 6) Florida 4)Oklahoma vs 5) Georgia With Ohio State and LSU getting a week bye Likely Georgia feast on some Sooners, and the Gators have a real shot vs Clemson but Clemson probably escapes with a close win You're Final Four would have been 1)LSU vs Georgia 2)Ohio State vs Clemson Some will argue with this because LSU just beat down Georgia.....but in my opinion its the playoff that makes the most sense.....because teams 4-6 are usually separated by razor thin hairs.
