Not sure how many of you are fans of the TV show, Survivor. We always have been. Pretty sure MamaBevo and I have never missed an episode. Not since we started having DVR's, for sure. In our neighborhood now, it's a weekly ritual to get together to watch. We draw names for money, betting on who will get kicked out each week. And, at the beginning of the season(Last Night), we have an auction for players who will WIN the game.
This is the 40th season of the show. It's been on for 20 years, and they do a show in the Fall and Spring every year.
This year, for the first time, they are starting with 20 Past Winners. "War of the Champions". It sure looks like it's going to be an epic season.
What's great is: Seeing so many players from SO LONG ago.
It's weird the way I remember, or don't remember these players. From Season to Season, I can barely remember who won. When I looked at a list of pictures and bio's of the players, I remembered about 15 of the 20. But, after watching 1 episode, all the memories come back... except for one: Sophie. I just don't recall her at all... yet.
If you've EVER been a fan of the show, this is the time to give it another viewing. It's changed a LOT over the years. Not all for the better. But, it's definitely challenging, and interesting.. to me at least.

I’ve watched just about every season - the year they had family members going against each other I didn’t watch. I don’t typically like when they have former contestants involved but this one should be interesting. I’m on the road for work so I didn’t watch last night but will when I get home later today.
We’re also doing a contest- our nephew put it together and he’ll have side contests each week. I picked Wendell and Sarah as my top 2 so they’ll probably get the early boot. I picked Tony to get voted out first so he’ll go all the way! I guess I’ll see if that prediction rings true later tonight. I do NOT want to see Rob or Sandra go far - seen enough of them! I did like the guy a couple years ago who kept finding idols and ultimately beat that obnoxious woman who thought her fecal matter smelled like roses. Anyway, looking forward to the season - is love to give it a try but I think they cast the show differently than when it started. I need someone to recommend me!!!

Ethan is back this year... 14 years later. He survived Hodgkin's Lymphoma... so, he can be your spirit animal. I have always really enjoyed Boston Rob. He is a warrior. But, he's really gotten old.. and, has quite the belly! Amber (Amba) is on the show this time, and she still looks GREAT! I picked three people: Jul (The Korean wiz guy who is MUCH older now), Janice (The Sex Therapist who psycho analyzed everyone), and Adam Klein. He was a unanimous winner. He VERY NEARLY got booted out last night. That's all the spoiler I'll give you. Already too much. If the first show is any indication, this is going to be a WILD Season.

I don't remember Denise or Natalie winning and doubt either will win this one (as I saw last night, Natalie was low woman on the totem pole as was Amber). I think Yul played pretty well in the first episode, Tony is playing too hard as is Sandra. Rob needs to drop a few lbs, Amber is feeding him well!I think rob will make an early exit - I know if I was voting he'd be at the top of my list.
Sophie won the first time Cochran played. He came back and won a couple seasons later. Interestingly, our neighbor's daughter went to Sloan Kettering Med School in NYC and her room mate was Sophie - our neighbors met her and it was about the same time she was on Survivor. They said she's nice but has a fairly boring personality. I don't think she can win. I had forgotten about Michelle - she was cutre and I was happy for her when she won - she may be overwhelmed by some of these stronger personalities.

I don't remember Denise or Natalie winning I remembered Natalie winning... It was one of the most unsatisfying winners ever. She and her twin sister were on The Amazing Race, twice... they were VERY annoying. They called each other "Twinnie" all the time. They were on Survivor when they did the "Couple" thing.. her sister was the first voted off the island. Natalie floated along, because everyone thought they could beat her at the final. But, the jury was filled with the same kind of people, and they rewarded her LACK of being able to do ANYTHING.

Did you guys watch the finale last night?? I don't want to say too much, and give away the ending if you recorded it.
This was, by far the best season of Survivor. I really loved it. Like getting reacquainted with old friends. And the competition was super intense, but with a ton of mutual respect. That's something we don't see much of anymore.
I was, however, extremely upset with show's producers. They gave one player an unbelievable advantage on one of the MOST important immunity challenges. It changed the outcome of the game, IMO. It was extremely unfair. And, the show took a disappointing turn toward "anti-female" bias last night (even AFTER a woman had just been given the huge advantage). Sadly, it came from one of the strongest female players ever. I mean, really? Men and women are treated differently? What a shock!
Women also have natural advantages. Is that fair? How many men have you ever seen win a "standing on a pole" competition. Survivor is supposed to be the ultimate test: Use what you have an try to overcome the obstacles. What difference does it make if Jeff calls you by your first name instead of your last? Good grief. Out of 40 seasons, women have won 15 times. They're not incapable. I was saddened to see that line of emotion spotlighted.
Whatever... it was still a terrific season. Even with a rather sad and crappy ending.

I watched the entire season and enjoyed it. I wasn't a big fan of the winner the first time he/she played but certainly deserved the win this time. I really liked the woman who got on her soap box at tribal - I think that was just a way to reconcile some of the feelings she had after her win a few years ago - I agree, she is very strong and wouldn't mess with her if she pulled me over for a traffic violation. There were some huge mistakes made in some of the tribal votings - sometimes you wonder what these people are thinking.
I agree with the challenges - if they would do a puzzle every time, I think Sophie would have won the whole thing. And who has an easier time hanging on a pole, a 110 pound woman or a 220 pound man. They all balance out.
Finally, I'm not a fan of the Edge. I think it's crap that someone who was voted out can come back at the end and have a shot at winning. They get to spend all that time building relationships with the jury while they're out there while the others are trying to navigate not getting voted out, and dealing with the mental side of the game. It's not the same. If they're going to do this end it at the time Tyson earned his way back into the game - not in the final 5 (or 6 with the person added). I think the final vote should have been unanimous but at least the right person won, in my opinion. Finally, if I ever see Boston Rob and Sandra again I think I'll skip that season. They had their time, I've seen enough of them. For God sakes, the guy has 4 kids - go be with your family. They'll be gone before he knows it.

I tried to respond to you on this a few days ago, but I guess it didn't post? I'm also done with the Extinction deal. When you're OUT, you should be OUT. It's not the same game for players not in the spotlight and fighting for survival.
Did you realize how bad Yul got screwed by the format this year? He got voted out on the same week they had the competition to come back. Yul had to turn in all his fire tokens, and then had NO chance to earn any. Natalie was there forever, and was able to win what 10 or 11 tokens? She had tons of advantages.
That puzzle challenge that Michelle won was totally unfair. She did that puzzle during her season, she knew WHAT to do. It wasn't all that hard if you knew what to do. None of the other players had any idea. She was dead last, by a LONG way before she started. None of the other players had a clue what to do until she finished the first ring. It was a HUGE advantage for Michelle, who would very clearly have been voted out that week without the win. That is, production interference in the outcome.
Still though, I love this show, and especially this season. Tony is clearly one of the best players ever. One of my favorites, for sure.
There were a couple of other winners that I wished could have come back. I like JT. And, Tom Westman, and Cohcran. They were winners with strong personas.

MY post from back on February 13 - look at my comments about Tony, SMDH. I mentioned our neighbor's connection to Sophie - she must have been really sick at that final tribal, she looked like she'd rather be anywhere but there. Anyway, our neighbor who roomed with her at med school is getting married and Sophie will be coming to beautiful Cincinnati for the festivities - it's next fall so I think we should be all this COVID crap by then. I'm going to try and get her to put in a good word with Probst for me - just like every other person she ever meets probably tries to do. I'll be 2 months away from retirement at that ttime so I'll have some time on my hands for a big adventure!

Me and my wife tune in every season. This season was certainly entertaining but can do with out all or the social righteousness when they go on there soap box supporting movements like LGBQRTZ. Not sure if I agree with the assessment that when women do devious things they are chastised and when men do these things they are praised. The difference that I see is that when men do it they tend to treat as game play and own it while women sometimes get very defensive and apologetic and some times look apathetic. This season Sarah tried to make it look like she was controlling the game and orchestrating moves but Tony was clearly doing that much better.
Not doubt Tony deserved to win it. Agree with the edge. Pretty unfair to get voted out week one and get to play into the final 5. I can see a path to get back into the final 8 but that is about it.

In all of these games that have a 'purgatory' place, the contestants have figured it out, and they almost always immediately vote out the person who comes back. Survivor made sure that couldn't happen. That makes it even more unfair.

Maybe next season they can come up with the twists that there are no twists.
