About 81% of the COVID-related deaths in the U.S. are seniors 65+. 96% are 50+. CDC now says 78% of hospitalizations are obese / morbidly obese. It's been a year now and the very low risk for most still hasn't sunk in.
COVID accounts for 208 deaths ages 0-17 of 36,203 since Jan 2020

I mean, if we can keep ONE person from dying from the flu, it'd be worth it, right? Meanwhile, the CDC puts out a report that shows state wide mask-mandates and closure of indoor dining have VERY minimal impact on covid case and death rates. Not ZERO impact. But, pretty close to it. Of course, the headline of the report is: Mask Mandates and Indoor Dining Bans are recommended. www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/70/wr/mm7010e3.htmAs a people, we are SO FAR apart on our individual levels of risk tolerance. We have FAR DIFFERENT ideas on how easy it should be for government to force us all to give up liberty. There seems to be zero consideration for the damage, both economic and social, that is caused by lockdowns and mandatory masking.

People choke and die every year eating steak so from now on we can only eat ground meat.

That is approximately a 33% decrease in time it takes for the death toll to double. If 2% is pretty close to 0%, I'll loan you some money at 2% interest compounded daily. You'll learn after a few weeks it is definitely not pretty close to 0%. You absolutely have a point on lockdowns. But on masking? The government already tells us that we are required to wear certain clothing in public. Where are the people refusing to wear pants, claiming that government is taking away their liberty? Wearing a mask is so very trivial compared to almost everything else we do to live in a society.

Sadly, I don't. I'll seek other sources. I do have other uber-liberal friends who are capable of rational discussion.

The last time you posted from a study, you blatantly misinterpreted the math and contradicted what the study said.
It is no surprise you don’t want to repeat that, it is more enjoyable to just ignore what they study says and post your own interpretation.
To put it in perspective, the difference between 2% daily growth is the difference between your mortgage interest and a predatory payday loan.
A 2% decline in the DAILY death rate growth is quite significant. Especially when it is something as trivial as wearing a mask.
But I guess you have a point. Today they make us wear masks. Tomorrow they will make us wear seatbelts and pants. Oh the tyranny.

You lie, you deflect, and you're just a psychic vampire: sucking all joy from anything you touch.

Yeah, I'm not trustworthy. But you post a study that says this:
And you post this as your analysis:
This is like when you posted a study, and said people don't give COVID from public transportation. Then you got mad that I called you out for either not understanding, or intentionally misrepresenting the study.
You're smart enough to know that even small declines in daily growth rates are not "VERY minimal". This is basic math. You're smart enough to know the implications of changes in daily growth rate, yet still call it "VERY minimal", but I'm the dishonest one.
Even ignoring the math, you seem to agree that masks do have some positive effect at reducing the spread. Yet your opposition seems to be that mask mandates are us "giving up liberty". Yet we have had laws on the books, upheld by conservative judges, that clothing mandates are constitutional. But now that it is masks, and not pants, it is the liberals trying to induce tyranny. I don't think equating mask mandates to giving up liberty is an intellectually honest argument.
But I agree, I am sucking the joy away. The joy of just being able to post opinions that anything the CDC or a democrat says is wrong, and have the other people here pat you on the back and blindly agree. Disagreement is being a troll. Dishonest. Ultra-liberal not worth talking to. Not sure what happened to you, you used to be above this intellectual laziness. But if that is what you want, so be it.

You’re completely wrong about everything you’ve said.
But, you’ll never know why.

I don't need or even like an echo chamber. I just like respectful discussion.

I don't need or even like an echo chamber. I just like respectful discussion. Your first response to me when I returned was this: Don't know that I ever encountered a more despicable human being than you? This looks like someone only interested in "respectful discussion". I'm laughing at you trying to take the high ground as an excuse to not defend your opinions. Enjoy the echo chamber. As Hero says, everyone needs a place to vent.

Your first response to me when I returned was this: [/div] Don't know that I ever encountered a more despicable human being than you? I recall saying this, but I didn't think it was the FIRST thing I said to you when you returned. Funny thing: I can't find it ANYWHERE in the search, or looking back in the site records. According to the record, I only made one post on July 18, 2020... and, it had nothing to do with you (I THINK!) Not denying I said it, and early. But, I didn't recall it being the FIRST thing. No big deal.. just seems odd. A month later, I was still trying to engage in conversation. Of course, it most all ended up in the same place. It's really NOT worth the minimal effort
