Our country is having a serious mental meltdown
In the last 3 days, amidst COVID and Race Riots/"protests", many really stupid news stories have popped up
Today, Oklahoma State star RB Chuba is pissed at coach Gundy because Gundy wore an OAN (One America News) on a fishing trip. I think Chuba is saying he won't play now. Somehow college athletes (kids) are feeling pretty entitled with the surge of racial insanity, and feel they can dictate how things will be run. If you want to talk about privilege, look no further than the American athlete in 2020. If they don't want to play, then don't play....it's that simple. Quit football and go try and be a political activist
Four Texas Athletes issued demands this weekend for several changes at the UT campus in Austin. Among changing building names, and wanting money to go to Black Lives Matter, they want the Texas fight song "The Eyes of Texas" to be changed. Evidently it's linked to minstrel shows before everyone on this board was alive. I didn't go to UT, but I have family that supports UT. Bending over for these demands is ludicrous. I haven't once thought of "The Eyes of Texas" as racist, and I really don't give a crap about it's origins. The fight song is a part of college tradition now, a tradition that many many black athletes have enjoyed being a part of. The Longhorn alum base is going to be furious if this is changed, count on it.
As for Kaepernick, rumors are there might be teams that want to hire him now. Go for it. He hasn't been on an NFL team since when? 2015?? I'm sure he doesn't even have the skills anymore. So who does this benefit? Some NFL team will be praised for having "the heart" to hire him, and all the players will laud over his kneeling. The NFL is quickly becoming a circus sideshow. It's pretty much dead to me at this point, along with most professional sports. I love college football, but it's going to be hard to hold on to that if spoiled teenage athletes keep bitching and moaning. These college athletes are KIDS. They don't know shit about shit. If they are so offended by the colleges they attend, then LEAVE. It is that simple.

“Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” George Orwell 1984
Change party to government. A perfect description of our time.
One month the government is arresting shop keepers for daring to go to work and trying to maintain their business during a severe virus. (We all know China did this.) The next month the same government ignores the looting and burning of the same shop. In both cases the government is right.

We have a building on our campus called Fenwick Hall. It's named for Archbishop Fenwick who was the first archbishop of Cincinnati back in the 1830's, I believe. One of our history professors, while doing research, discovered that Archbishop Fenwick owned slaves. This discovery was made in 2016 just before the election. Around the same time several white students dressed up in black face for Halloween, about a week later Trump was elected president. These events lead to a task force being created to come up with recommendations on what to do about Fenwick Hall, the students may have been expelled and Trump conversations go on constantly. We're now in 2020 and the task force is still working on making recommendations about Fenwick Hall and another election will take place in a few months. In the meantime statues are being taken down and we keep apologizing for events that happened before our great, great grandparents were even alive. No matter how many statues you take down or names you change due to events that happened close to 200 years ago, you cant erase history. As long as we keep apologizing for the past we'll never have a great outlook for the future.

Sorry guys... MamaBevo and I have been in Vegas for the past 6 nights on a glorious, much needed vacation. I won $2k on a slot machine the first night, which made the week MUCH more fun. Naturally, none of that $2k came back with us to Ky. But, nearly all of the money we took with us did come back. So, it was a successful trip. A bit weird, but... I'll post more on that later. As for the Texas player's demands. At first, I was shocked and saddened by this. Apparently, Coach Hermann encouraged his players to "Use their Voice". They did. After a few days, and considerable dialogue going on, I'm more hopeful that this will wind up OK. As for their demands, this is how I see them.... as a Life-long fan and graduate: - Changing Building names? I'm not a fan of pulling down statues, or erasing names... but, I'm willing to look at each case to determine the merit. One of the biggest names, Littlefield, paid for my favorite fountain on campus. From what I've read, the guy was an ardent Confederate supporter, who really carried a grudge after the war. He went out of his way to make all his donations about celebrating the Confederacy. I can live with his name going away, or at least being substantially reduced. Same with most of the other buildings they've requested. I doubt this request will cause any grief to anyone. - Money to BLM? It's not just BLM, it's also to some inner-city youth programs. I suspect they'll agree to compromise here. Some of the programs look worthwhile. There's certainly plenty of money to spread around. - Adding a Black Wing to the Longhorn Sports Hall of Fame I have a problem with this. It's racist. And Separatist. I don't like it. The new HOF is just recently opened, and it Prominently features black Longhorn players. There are Statues of Earl Campbell and Ricky Williams. Why separate out "Black vs White"? We're ALL supposed to be united here. - Rename some Athletic buildings after Julius Whittier, the first black football player at UT. OK. Whatever. They already have buildings named after him. He was, by all accounts, a cool dude and a trendsetter. I'm fine with further memoriam. - Eliminating the "Eyes of Texas" NO FREAKING WAY. Deal breaker. Don't like it, leave. The origins of this song MIGHT have had some 'racist' origin, but... the meaning has LONG since changed. And, frankly... I don't think the origin was ever racist, it just started wit Robert E. Lee. The concept has ALWAYS been: The EYES of your people are watching you, so... DO YOUR BEST to be worthy. That's always been a positive message, and that hasn't changed. It's probably THE MOST important, and beloved tradition at UT, a school that prides itself on tradition. Frankly, the school brass as become SO liberal and PC over the years, it wouldn't shock me if they caved on this. But, if they do, it will be very bad news for donations and for the school. We'll see. A few former players (black athletes) have spoken out in support of the song. It MAY survive. If it doesn't? I will no longer be a Longhorn fan. That's how much it means to me.

It could happen, Bevo - check this out.... www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/florida-discontinues-use-of-popular-gator-bait-cheer-at-sporting-events-due-to-racial-imagery/This PC stuff has gone way overboard. Here in Cincinnati there are a couple efforts going to eliminate Marge Schott's name from a couple sports venues - never mind that Marge donated most of the money for the venues to be built. I'm sure her name is associated with the Cincinnati Zoo - one of the elephants was named Schottzie, I believe. She also made huge contributions to the Boy Scouts but they have their own battles with the abuse allegations. Anyway, I say if you're going to remove Marges' name from the venues then give the money back, too. I'm sure she didn't give the money to have things named after her (maybe she did) but if you're so repulsed by what her name stands for then you should be repulsed by her money, too.

Oh… I'm very aware that it COULD happen. The UT Directors are full blown liberals and are consumed with everything PC.
I am fully prepared to no longer be a fan.
I'll need a new golf bag. And, I'll save $3.77 a month that I waste on the LHN. Have a few shirts, hats, socks, and underwear to give away to Goodwill. But otherwise, I suspect my life will not be that different. My wife will be thrilled. Because, I'm always in a really bad mood on days when Texas loses at football.... and that has been frequent in the past few years.
