Clemson is primed for another run behind Trevor Lawrence. Their schedule looks a little more tricky than 2019 though. They have road games at FSU, Notre Dame, and Georgia Tech. Also, Virginia and Louisville are on the schedule. It would not surprise me if they look human at times, but I do think they make it back to the playoff and are my favorite to win it all.
I also like Ohio State to make it back to the playoff. I think Fields will be a phenomenal QB. Also, playing solely Big 10 games will help. The conference looks to be down this year. The toughest game is a road trip to Penn State.
Alabama will be in the mix, and they have a good shot to make the playoff. I just can't see them being as competitive as the 2019 version though. Matt Jones will have to step up. Alabama reloads, but there will be a lot of new faces.
Besides those obvious three, a lot has been mentioned about Georgia, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Florida. Meh...I just don't see it from those teams. Florida might make it to the SEC Championship game in a weak SEC East, but they don't have the guns to make it to the playoff.
Three teams I think could seriously surprise are: USC Oklahoma State Texas A&M
If USC plays a strictly PAC-12 schedule, they lose Alabama and Notre Dame. THIS IS HUGE for the Trojans. If they get on a roll, I think they can get past a tough stretch of Cal, @ Arizona, Colorado, @ Oregon. If they get through that stretch with just 1 loss or less, look out. I think this is a serious playoff run year for the Trojans.
Now is the time to shine for Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies to rise! But it looks like they are on probation, so this is really a blown opportunity. I have the Aggies as the #2 team in the SEC. What a shame!
Oklahoma State has the team and the players to make a serious run at a playoff appearance. I've got them as #1 in the Big XII. Beating Oklahoma, Texas, and Iowa State won't be easy, but OSU is the most complete team at this point.
Dark Horses:
Oklahoma and Texas. Oklahoma has all the pieces EXCEPT QB. And they are a QB driven team. If they can find the answer at QB, they could be in the playoffs for a 4th straight year. Texas has the components to make, but Ehlinger needs to step up and own the team. The whole team needs to step up and want it. You don't win championships just because your jersey says TEXAS. It's time to get angry.
Overall, here's my prediction:
1. Clemson 2. Ohio State 3. Alabama 4. USC
1 Clemson over 4 USC 2 Ohio State over 3 Alabama
Clemson over Ohio State

I doubt there will be a CFP this season. That's how I know THIS was the year Texas was GOING to win it!

I still cannot wrap my head around Kirby not starting Fields at UGA.

I still cannot wrap my head around Kirby not starting Fields at UGA. I obviously watch every Ohio State game and attend more than half every season. I can't tell you how many times I said (quite sarcastically I might add), "Boy, I sure am glad Jake Fromm was better than this guy!"

You had Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow competing for the starting position!

When I watch Jake Fromm there was nothing that made me think that he was all that special. He was a decent college QB and that was about it. I don't recall him being very athletic in terms of running the ball and recall him throwing a fair amount of bad balls\picks. Why Smart continued to go with him is beyond me but I am sure glad he did it.
I absolutely loved Urban as a coach for tOSU but I always thought that he should have considered benching Barrett during his final season. Other than the amazing comeback against PSU he was less than stellar. At the time you had Burrow and Haskins both sitting there and both were much better passers. I think Barrett regressed during his career as his downfield vision appeared to be limited which resulted in him running the ball more than he probably should have. Anyway, it was Urbans team and his decision. As John Cooper said, everybody out there wants to play poker with my chips.

Agree, I see Fromm as more of a game manager QB, not someone who can consistently throw for 400 to win games.
