I don't know, doc. I can see the point of the opt outs too, since these goofy bowls are basically post season exhibitions and a potential pro career might be at risk Yes, to hell with the team...me me me SMH

Mullins reaction to last night is laughable, as well. He said his scout team got some good reps, played well and they didn't have to play the game. He also said the last game his 2020 team played was 11 days ago. No wonder his team has an 'it's all about me' attitude; Mullin can't even accept that his team got it's ass beat, regardless of the situation. And as for - they didn't have to play, well Dan - your team didn't play.

Alabama, Clemson getting most of the bets
As of Thursday, 70% of the money bet on Alabama-Notre Dame has come in on the Crimson Tide. The amount of bets on Clemson is even greater: 80.8% of the money bet on the other semifinal is on the Tigers to cover.
“Alabama and Clemson are receiving strong support from the public in the College Football Playoff,” BetMGM VP of trading Jason Scott said.
“BetMGM will be cheering for an upset in the semifinals, the best outcome would be Notre Dame covering or winning outright.”

I think there would likely be less opt outs if there was a playoff but still plenty of 'em.

This isn’t a shot directed as the SEC fans on this board because I like them...... but generally there is a double standard regarding the SEC and Bowl Games. If the SEC has a good bowl season it’s because it’s a great conference etc........ if they have clunkers like they did last night it’s because they don’t care. Look I realize Florida had opt outs...... I really don’t think you can put a 35 point loss all on opt outs

Meaning, you would be okay with these players risking their future if the form (an all-inclusive playoff) changed?

One of the interesting plot lines that the COVID-2020 season brought to light was that the CFP committee doesn’t care as much as everyone thought they did about number of games… Eye test seems to have more clout.

Meaning, you would be okay with these players risking their future if the form (an all-inclusive playoff) changed? Actually I'm not arguing anything but just speculating that IF there was a real playoff some players considering opting out might feel more loyalty to the team in its quest for a national title ........more loyalty than for a team competing for a mayonnaise trophy.

A combination of eye test ,name brand reputation, recruiting stars, and television draw

We have had opts out every year since the Playoff Started...starting in 2014.....there is more this year than usual BUT we have had high profile players opting out of Bowls well before Covid struck Hero......... Cincinnati is missing two key offensive lineman.....you haven't heard about that because the announcers can't stop talking about Georgia's opt outs.
