In fairness, I shouldn't hit Brownell too hard.
Clemson's historical post-season attributes are not stellar. It’s one that goes back to Cliff Ellis’s 1987 team losing to 13-seed Southwest Missouri State and Rick Barnes’s 1998 team losing to 11-seed Western Michigan. Grayson Marshall was out in 1987 and it was a killer, but you figure Clemson still should have had enough to beat a mid-major like SWMS.
68 teams make the “playoff” (it's not really a playoff - just a bigger version of the football structure). The worst team to make the tournament (per KenPom) was SWAC champion Southern Texas who ranked 218th. The worst at-large team to make the field was 50th ranked Drake. Arizona, Indiana, and Kentucky are the only teams inside KenPom’s top 50 to miss the tournament. Essentially, to make the tournament as an at-large team you just have to be inside the top 50 (Clemson sits at 43rd).
Guard play wins in the tournament so it shouldn’t be a surprise that forward-centric Clemson teams seem to come up short.
Although Clemson exceeded expectations, lumbering to a 1-3 record in the last four, with one-and-outs in both tournaments is not all that satisfying.

Got to remember that there are 30 + D1 conference champs out there. If you include deserving at large teams the field has to be pretty big

The supposedly two best conferences the Big Ten and the The Big 12 both took it on the chin early...... The Big Ten worse but pretty much everyone not named Baylor from the Big 12 lost in the second round.

On vacation in Key West. Wife loves it down here and keeps wanting to buy a place. Once she sees the price tag hopefully it will change here mind. Anyway both BIG and B12 have had looked far far less than impressive. WVU took it on the chin early as well. At the moment best team in Ohio is Ohio. The top team in Texas is a 3 way battle that includes Abiliene and Houston. ORU own Oklahoma. Good thing about being in Key West is that it has limited my hoops viewing. As far as my picks 1 ORU If they are good ernough to beat the Buckeyes then they deserve to win it all 2 Loyala I am catholic so will stick with any catholic school other than ND and X. 3 Creighton they might be catholic and with that chance I will go with them. 4\5\6 Villanova Gonzaga Baylor - all have a chance to show me some money 7 Houston Kind of Mid Major kind of Major. Go with a time that is more associated as a mid major 8 Oregon St - This team has no chance at ever winning a national title in a major sport except once in a Blue Moon 9 Syracuse - Kind of like Boehiem 10\11\12 UCLA-USC Oregon better choices than the rest 13 FSU Never been a fan of their Football program and I has translated to Basketball as well 14 Arky Me root for an SEC school? ain't happening 15 Bama Me root for BAMA in any sport? ain't happening 16 ttun - If they win it all I get at least a C Note but it is a C note I can do without.

Not to mention this most recent one. Bama fans have every right to 'pimp' after the butt whipping they put on EVERYBODY last football season. FSU fans 'pimping' about a game that happened 24 years ago just shows how far the mighty have fallen - I mean, FSU actually refused to play Clemson and used COVID as an excuse (Michigan did the same with Ohio State.) Talk about chicken-shit. And a little info on Loyola-Chicago, Gonzaga and Creighton who make up 3/16ths of the Sweet 16. They are Jesuit Catholic institutions whose mantra is being 'Men and Women for others.' There are 27 Jesuit schools in the US - Boston College, Georgetown, Xavier, Marquette, Canisius, St. Louis, San Francisco, Seattle, Santa Clara and Loyola-Mariemont are a few of the others. At one point there was talk of an all Jesuit basketball league, which would be pretty spectacular but they're spread across the country so it would have been difficult to pull off logistically.

FSU hasn't played well lately, but it hasn't even been 10 years since their last title...
Ohio State is 0-3 vs. FSU...never beaten by the Buckeyes...
Here is some good info on FSU vs. the Big 10 in general. What an overrated conference
