I think it will be a huge benefit for teams like Alabama.

I think it will be a huge benefit for teams like Alabama. I have changed my mind. Please shut down the transfer portals!

From a basketball perspective, I think it's out of control. I heard there are close to 1200 players currently in the portal - that's enough to field 80 teams of 15. There are 350 D-1 basketball programs so close to a sixth of the players are transferring. I always told my kids, 'you finish what you start', but that doesn't seem to be the case anymore. Kids egos get bruised when they're yelled at. They don't want to wait their turn to play. Parents are far too involved. They think their kid is a meal ticket to millions of dollars. It's out of control.
Football? OSU has 3 highly rated QB's vying to be the starter this year - what are the chances all three will stay after the starter is named? Probably not likely. I think it makes more sense in football, especially if you're buried on the depth chart, but basketball is simply crazy. Xavier had a guy transfer in from Ohio U, he played 2 seasons and now he's transferring back to Ohio U. Max McGlung went from Georgetown to Texas Tech where he was the top scorer and after 1 season is transferring again. It's free agency college basketball style.

I think that's the big thing for me as well. It's an easy way out....whine and pout when their playing time doesn't materialize, or gets cut....either way. Sometimes you just get out-recruited at your position. symptom of the participation trophy?

I never had a problem with sitting a year after transferring. The NCAA in all its wisdom has created a pure free agency which will benefit very few.
The cream will be high profile transfers many will move down a level and the rest will fall through the cracks with nothing.
Young people need to think long and hard about big decisions. Facing a situation where you have to sit out a year was good for them as it really made them think. The holy NCAA could not organize pouring piss out of a boot without making a nasty mess.
I think the rule is bad for college football but BAMA will be glad to scoop up a little more cream.

I bet Herman would still be at Texas if he didn't have ALL BUT ONE of his Rb's transfer away at one time. We had to convert a backup QB to running back. I think it's TOO much.

IF you have graduated and want to go somewhere you should be able to do anything you are good enough to do. No questions asked.

From a football standpoint I have no problem with it. These players want to play and why not let them go somewhere else if they are being given the opportunity. From a spectator perspective it has not changed my passion for the game in any way shape or form.
The part of the game that is hurt is that the strong will get stronger. If you are one of the Big 3 (maybe 4 with Oklahoma) and you have players that don't quite develop and end up deep in the depth chart they are likely going to go somewhere where they get an opportunity. This opens the doors for super stars on lesser teams to join one of the Big 3. Ohio States starting QB and RB both came in from the transfer portal. As long as we keep the format of the CFP at 4 teams you should expect 3 spots go to OSU, BAMA, Clemson, and Oklahoma.
