Oklahoma got moved down the the #4 slot by the committee. They were clearly sending the Big 12 a message that had either Stanford or Notre Dame not had that extra late season loss, the Big 12 would have been the odd man our again. A one loss PAC 12 Champ Stanford at 12-1 would definitely have gotten in over 11-1 Oklahoma. But I don't think it's clear that an 11-1 Notre Dame would have been in over an 11-1 Oklahoma. Would have been a fun debate though and put more pressure on the Big 12 to add a CCG and perhaps more pressure on ND to at least rethink their Independent status. If Oklahoma and Notre Dame finished 11-1 (both without the extra tough game) then they would play each other to see which one gets in. Call it the Without a Championship Game Championship Game. That would be fun to argue over.

Oklahoma was not ranked in the top-4 in either of the final major polls. At the end of the season, I doubt if Oklahoma was one of the best 8 teams. The CFP selection committee was charged with selecting the best 4 teams, yet the CFP protocols made it nearly impossible to do so. Conference Championships count.

With the only loss being to Clemson compared to Oklahoma's loss to Texas; ND would have gotten the edge.

Oklahoma is big time football, and they want to be in a conference that reflects that....If things don't start changing, I think OU will try the SEC and Big 10 and see where they get....

Hero: "Conference Championships count."
So, how do you fit 10 conference champions into a 4-team playoff?

Lol. Yea, That's right approach to getting Texans to agree on something; in a year where your team just got voted into the CFP, start making ultimatums in public. What an idiot. I don't blame OU at all for taking this stand. Texas is in a conference but wants exclusive rites with the Longhorn network for their own personal gain. If thats what they want then they should join ND in the independent league. Texas clearly does not understand what it is to be part of a conference which a big part of that is sharing revenues.

Ergo, conference championships don't count? Nonsense At least 6 of 10 conference championships cannot count when it comes to the CFP -- hypothetically, as many as 9. Even when the CFP inevitably expands to 8 teams, there still will be conference champions that will be denied an opportunity to compete. Perhaps you can explain the "nonsense"?

You started by talking about the Protocols and I responded about Conference Championships being part of the protocols. You switched to talking about excluded conferences and we agreed some conferences are excluded. The later fact doesn't change the former fact. My only point...Championships do count in the protocols. That is all I am saying.

Gotcha.
Conference championships do matter when it comes to selecting the G5 team to beat up on a hapless P5 opponent on NYD.

AJ, you clearly don't know the history behind the formation of the Longhorn Network. After the Big 10 started their network, Texas approached the Big12 and wanted them to do the same. Nothing happened. Then Texas tried working out a deal with the other Texas teams (Baylor, Tech, A&M). The Aggies were dead set against it, because they were already planning a jump to the SEC. Then, ESPN offered us our own network....for $28 Million a year. Who says 'No' to that? Personally, I loved the idea at first... Now, I HATE it. Our program has been shit since it started, and it has very little original programming. A conference network would be better. But, it's a contract now. You do know, don't you.... That OU also has their own TV network? So, their complaint is just a bit hypocritical. Also, I just saw where OSU signed a $46 Million deal win Nike. Do the Bucks plan on sharing that with the B1G? You know, since the "know what it is to be part of a conference"?

Speculation amongst Sooner fans is that he's laying the groundwork for OU to bolt at the earliest opportunity. Argue for a plan that you know the rest of the conference won't agree to, and then you can say "well, we tried". THIS is the only thing that makes any sense. He can't be so stupid as to make such demands, publicly, and think they will be agreed to. So, it's a "show". Once again, we'll just blame it all on Texas, and go grab the big bucks.
