Thirty yeas ago today, I was working for Dow Chemical in Freeport, Texas. I was having a normal lunch....in our conference room, with several co-workers .... We had a TV on, watching the launch of the space shuttle Challenger. We weren't really paying that close attention to it.... It was background noise....until.... I will never forget. It was my co-worker, Matt, that first drew our attention to a problem. He said, "Oh my God....did you see that?" Those words are seared into my memory. When I looked at the TV, all I saw was a fireball.....and two continuing entrails from solid rocket boosters. It took a few seconds for the realization of tragedy to come over me. Surely, certainly....all were lost. Late that evening, we were supposed to be seeing the State of the Union speech. Instead, we saw Ronald Reagan giving a 4 minute address from the Oval Office. Here it is, in entirety: youtu.be/vWPDNf9VMVoWatching this now, I think I'm even sadder. We are SO FAR from having a leader like Reagan. I can't even imagine anyone with his seriousness, optimism, hopefulness and grace in the White House. Lord, I miss Ronald Reagan. We could sure use someone like him today.

...to touch the face of God.
Ronald Reagan's speeches had a rare elegance not seen since Martin Luthor King, and before that Abraham Lincoln.
Just curious: 1. How often do you see GOP candidates aspire to be Reagan Republicans?
2. How long has it been since a Democrat candidate has aspired to be a JFK Democrat?
