How did I miss this one?
Watched this movie this weekend, and thought it was quite good.
Del Toro was very good, as was Emily Blount, who plays the naïve FBI agent.

MamaBevo and I went to see Brooklyn last weekend. As Doc had said, it was a good movie. MamaBevo liked it more than I did. But, I was entertained. It wasn't one where I was looking at my watch along the way.
To me, it was a interesting story... but, at the end, I kept wondering: Why? Why is this a story I needed to see? MamaBevo didn't care.... she liked the relationships.
Spoiler alert: There are ZERO car chases or nipples. :-(

I thought Saoirse (not sure I spelled that correctly) Ronan was outstanding in Brooklyn, a very controlled and emotional performance. She is an actress who is going to be around for a long time. The girl in Room must be outstanding as Ronan's was the best female performance I've seen this year. I'll have to get to Room in the near future.
I haven't seen Sicario - has any one seen Ex Machina, I'm going to rent that from the Redbox this weekend. The actress in that movie is gorgeous but she plays a robot so I'm sure it doesn't do her justice. She's also in the Danish Girl. Guy must really want to be a woman if he's married to Alicia Vikander and still goes through a sex-change!

The feel of the movie really took you back to the 1950's...did a great job with the scene locations and costumes. It would definitely be considered a 'chick flick' but that doesn't bother me - I'm comfortable in my masculinity!

It would definitely be considered a 'chick flick' but that doesn't bother me - I'm comfortable in my masculinity! I like history type pieces... and, as I said.. the story was very interesting. It was a "nice little movie".... I just didn't see anything 'great' about it.
Truly though, one of my measures as to how good a movie is? How fast does the time go by? If I'm really "INTO" the story, time flies..... if not, it drags! This movie was 2 hour 24 minutes... but, it seemed like no time at all.
That's the mark of a good movie.
