Used to be all about recruiting talent. Now it's at least 50% about recruiting money for the purchasing and retention of talent. I might be spending many Saturdays this season at our local DIII team .....the Emory & Henry Wasps which might offer some semblance of real 'college' football.

The NCAA has killed the goose that laid the golden eggs. The college football I grew up watching and loving is as dead as a door nail. My interest died with it.

Don't think that's a very well written article. First of all, Michigan had a good number of transfers on last years illegitimate championship team.
But beyond that, I think the premise is a bit of a strawman. Are people really arguing that the only way to build a championship roster is through the portal? I don't think many people are.
But the schools competing for playoff spots are absolutely being strategic about filling out their roster with transfers. And Clemson is taking barely any transfers in. I have a hard imagining there aren't players out there who would help Clemson, would come to Clemson, but Clemson isn't pursuing them.
So I think Dabo is leaving a little meat on the bone in terms of roster construction, and I think it's fair to criticize that from a football aspect. And I don't think "well you can't build a National Champion through the portal" is really an effective counter argument.

I think most Clemson fans would agree...I'm not saying Dabo needs to go get 13-14 "one and done" players every year, but a key OL, WR, LB, CB...those kinds of strategic helpers won't "kill the culture" he has put in place, IMO. |

The NCAA has tried to resist the move to full professionalism in the sport but can't legally stop it. For example, if a regular, non athlete student desired to transfer ( even multiple times ) to other schools, how could that be legally prevented ?...same legal right for jocks. Lawsuits, lawsuits and more lawsuits, Hero. Might reconsider the finger pointing a bit. This mess was not the plan of the governing body of the sport. |

You stop it by having the recruits sign contracts. They don’t HAVE to sign them. Completely voluntary. But if they want to play for an NCAA regulated program, they’d have to accept the limitations on transfers. The NCAA COULD regulate that. They’ve just chosen not to. |

It's ok. I think the fact that the kids now have more control over their careers and can earn some money is a good thing. At the very least, it's fair.

That and the animosity towards free markets and personal freedom. I guess those things are bad if it ruins your fall Saturday entertainment choice. |

People have the right to contract for money with anyone who wants to pay them. But, I think limitations to transfers would be upheld, if reasonable. No one has a right to Move every year. |
