LSU, TCU, A&M, Mich St, Ole Miss, and OSU can all struggle with lesser opponents and not be penalized, but when some teams struggle, it's indicative that they’re not playoff contenders.
Why is MSU ahead of Utah, why is USC ahead of Stanford, and who in the hell is still ranking Oregon?
Aghhhhh. I’m gonna go punch a wall.

Obviously 'how you sound' is about as important in the mythical system as 'how you play'....because us suckers buy the crap.

BYU has played one of the toughest schedules in the country. They won on prayers at Nebraska and against Boise before losing a heart breaker at the Rose Bowl last week. To expect them to travel to Michigan and play a competitive game at virtually 10 am their times was asking way too much. They are tired and need to play a breather game. Give them credit for the schedule, with no conference they have to do this, but there is no way they're going to be able to get up week after week when you open with 3 road games like Nebraska, UCLA and Michigan.
As for Oregon - they looked bad but Locke is not going to make anyone forget Mariotta. This doesn't look like a good year for the Ducks but at least they get to wear new uniforms every week.

I think Michigan is ahead of schedule with Harbaugh... And, that is a GOOD thing.
It's hard for the rest of us to take the B1G seriously when Michigan sucks. I'm sorry... It may not be the RIGHT way to look at things. But, that's how it is.
IMO, having a decent Team Up North, helps the entire conference.
However... From all I've read? Harbaugh is an anti-social ass, who will likely wear out his welcome in a few years. So, enjoy it while you can.

I agree that Michigan (and Penn State) need to be good for the Big Ten in terms of national perception. From my vantage point, it's far more enjoyable seeing them get their hopes up and then having their hearts ripped out than seeing them suck - although that's pretty enjoyable too. At the same time, given the smugness and arrogance of Michigan fans and the mind boggling lack of reality and compassion the PSU fans exhibited during the Sandusky fiasco, I really don't care if either program ever wins another game.

Oregon has no defense. They gave up 42 to Div-1aa Eastern Washington whose best player had transfered to UO. Marriota masked a lot of problems.

The comment is true for our perceptions.
Harbaugh will probably last longer in a college atmosphere. We abide considerable CRAP when it is camouflaged by winning.
I imagine the 49ers are having a bit of postpartum depression.

Yea... I think State is getting close to that level... they just need to maintain the success for another year or two.
I think, the same kind of thinking applies to the Big 12: As long as Texas, or OU stink? People think the conference is down. Although, the BIG 12 hasn't existed in any stable form long enough for this perception to be so well formed. TCU and Baylor are certainly changing that perception, quickly.... OkST to a lesser degree.
It's just not the same when the "big" programs are patsies.
