The biggest gap on Offense is at skill, primarily because Renfro was a 2* recruit. He clearly plays above that 2* rating.
After reading both Clemson and Bama message boards so far this week, and ignoring the idiots on both, One thing stands out as clear - Clemson must stop Bama's rushing game.
If Clemson can do this, they likely win the game.
Both teams will be the best the other has faced all year. Maybe not at the individual unit levels, but team-wise for sure. For example, OSU has a better OL than Bama, at least statistically.

The successful team on offense will stay ahead of the chains....3rd and 2, not 3rd and 7.

I think there's some truth to that this year... Clemson is in great position to win this game, but they have to conquer a legendary defense.... you've got to really like the match-up of the Clemson D to the Alabama offense....as long as the Tigers keep everything in front of them, and don't give up a big pass play to Ridley or OJ Howard, they should do a good job at shutting the Bama offense down. For the first time in forever, I think Alabama is finally facing a team that could flip the script on them of suffocating a team. Clemson was able to wear out the Alabama D last year but this year the D is better. That Clemson D is amazing though, and could keep Alabama to 3 and outs I think this is going to be one of the best National Championship games in awhile
Personally, I'm sending Sark a case of fine bourbon....a la Kevin Spacey in A Time to Kill.
Tiger, don't make me come over there.

Saban's secret exposed:
Don't schedule Purdue.

Bama keeps it simple. On offense, they mostly lineup in 11 or 12 personnel sets. Once in a while, you'll see 14 personnel with 1x1 on Ridley and Hurts will take a chance.
Why? Because Alabama has better athletes than you do.
From there, they run a lot of inside/outside zone and power blocking, often leading with Howard as an H back.
Same thing on D, keep it simple - almost always play with 2 high safeties, because the front seven is so good.

I think a game is missing.
Key Stats
Alabama holds a 13-3 lead in the all-time series with Clemson, with all 13 wins coming in a row since the Tigers opened the series on a three-game winning streak.
Clemson hasn’t beaten Alabama since 1905.

Clemson's task, in theory, is as simple as it was against Ohio State: stuff the run/force the pass. Unfortunately the Tide have a stronger runner at QB and a power back in Scarborough who is the type of back that has given Clemson problems. Clemson’s DL will make its share of plays like always, but it will be imperative that the Tiger secondary hold up in run support and not get trucked the way Washington’s secondary did at times in the semi final. Clemson’s defense has to hold serve while the offense probes the Bama defense.
While Coker was not much of a run threat, his play is overlooked factor in how the Tide won that night. He was able to not miss when Clemson busted in the secondary and managed to avoid turning it over despite being sacked multiple times and hurried on several throws. To me, the turning point was his chuck and duck prayer that was answered by Stewart along the sideline - a critical play during a time when Clemson was on the verge of taking over the game.
I don't think Watson will go wild two years in a row, and Clemson won’t bust simple zone coverages to give the Tide 21 free points.
Clemson has the defense to shut Alabama down; Hurts is ineffective when pressured and Clemson lives in the opposing backfield. If Alabama doesn’t score the non-offensive touchdowns to help Hurts out, Clemson will win by two scores. Given Clemson’s proclivity for turnovers and Alabama’s penchant for scoring on them, I expect turnovers will render this a back and forth affair.
Clemson will be at full strength and depth. Williams and McCain will give DW the ability to look downfield. Lawson and Alexander were injured / out for most of the game.
The LSU’s LBs were essential in helping set the edge in their game aginst Bama. I’m worried that we don’t stay disciplined on a read play, or let our aggression cause us to lose contain. We don’t have the fastest LBs in the world from side to side.
