Last night was the most "get on my back" game I’ve seen in college football since Vince Young beat a team that was being dubbed the best ever, the unbeatable dynasty, in USC.
I don’t think any of us will forget where we were when Deshaun connected with Hunter Winfrow to put the dagger in Alabama’s heart to slay the last giant on his quest for greatness.
Things come full circle in life, I believe. It took a blowout loss to Bama to start things in motion for the program, and they climbed the mountain to defeat the very same program roughly 8 years later.

Yea, well.. sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't. When Texas lost a CLOSE BCS title game to Bama, Mack Brown lost his freaking mind... He decided, "Texas must imitate Bama in style".... The attempted transition DESTROYED our program.. and, 6 years later? We have not yet recovered. Maybe.... in 2 years?

Apparently this one of the most lopsided games from a betting standpoint in a while, with a TON of money on the Clemson moneyline. I hope some of the big books report how much they lost- would be interesting. Vegas lost big tonight.
Anybody around here win any cash on this game?
I just learned the payoff on my Calcutta wager... It's $1047. My original bid (Back in August) was $239. I might has actually gotten better odds in Vegas! “It was as bad as a result as humanly possible” Bill Sattler, director of specialty games for Caesars Entertainment, said Clemson winning in a high-scoring game produced "the worst loss in any college football game I can remember."

I'm not surprised. Had I been in Vegas, I would DEFINITELY have bet on Clemson, with the points and money/line. I wouldn't have bet the over. I really thought it would be low-scoring. But, most bettors prefer the "over"... because, you can win it before the game is over. The "under" is NEVER safe, until that final tick. Plus, people instinctively want to cheer on scoring plays.

..and congrats to Hunter Renfrow who made the game winning catch, scored another TD and had critical receptions throughout. This kid is also a 100% legitimate CF student-athlete and majoring in Engineering. There weren't many like him, if any, out zipping around that FB field Monday night.

A college kid was actually playing in the National Championship game?? How can that be??

So does this mean kids majoring in business, communications, sports management, agriculture, sociology and criminal justice are not true student/athletes? I majored in communications and I teach a class at my university in the sports management program - was I/am I just wasting my time? I do question what kind of work you pursue with a recreation and leisure degree but as I mentioned in another post - I'd be willing to bet the kid with the highest annual income to come out of Clemson this year won't be an engineering student - it will almost certainly be Deshawn Watson - and it won't be close. So did Clemson and Dabo Swinney fail Watson by letting him major in communications?

So did Clemson and Dabo Swinney fail Watson by letting him major in communications? No it doesn't mean that at all on an individual basis.. Its all about 'clustering' Doc. When great volumes of FB jocks are 'clustered' together into a no fail major for the purpose of supervision, eligibility, scheduling around football, mass tutoring, counseling and general 'handling' ...that's when the red flag of fraud pops up. There are probably very legitimate 'Exercise Science' majors at Alabama with real career goals based on that discipline and probably legitimate Afro Studies majors at UNC with related career goals but when you have a classroom primarily filled with FB jocks that wouldn't normally be accepted into the university all clustered together well, there is one main purpose and goal for that.....ELIGIBILITY. Football jocks with sub secondary reading levels are NEVER EVER clustered into Aerospace Engineering for some reason. There are just some very eligibility friendly majors out there at all the WAAC FB factories in which you will find the majority of full scholarship FB players.

Scholarships are great, but their value in my mind is negated simply be most majors being closed off to student athletes due to the demands of their sport. Just looking at the football team, I think there’s a good reason why the majority of the team are communications majors and sociology majors and the engineering, microbiology, and chemistry majors are virtually nonexistant.
Those majors are closed off to many students because of the difficulty, or needing to work. Hen is right, some don’t have the foundation before arriving, and would need more remedial help. Then you have others who wouldn’t have been allowed to be a CivE or ChemE at G5 / lesser schools, which is just wrong.
Or if NW QBs story was accurate, being guided away from premed. Also wrong.
I don’t think there’s any argument that D1 athletes are likely guided into majors under the advice that such classes will be easier to do well in/keep students qualified in. Now is it entirely possible that D1 athletes are all just super interested in communications and sociology? Sure, but I think the reality is that the demands of being a D1 athlete and the demands of certain majors effectively force students to choose athletics over an education.
