Sabanology is so interesting.
The greatest coach who ever lived has the 21st best winning % among 'major' (FBS) level coaches , all time. The greatest coach who ever lived has only the 8th best winning % among active FBS coaches...and The greatest coach who ever lived has the 66th best winning % among all NCAA coaches, all time.
but, keep buying the 'latest greatest' media hype.

Fun to speculate about Nick's ,so called, championships and Bama'a long history of these type championships. How many 'on field' NCAA championships would Bama have won in its history if it had to negotiate a full NCAA playoff field ?..no voting the championship...no voting directly into final games or semi-final games. Remember, Bama ( with Bryant) was named national champ twice when it couldn't even win its bowl games. That pretty well epitomizes 'mythical' or 'pretend' So what do you think, Bevo and Hero ?
My guess - somewhere between zero and 15 Hero's guess - 47 Bevo _

I suspect they would do just fine in whatever crazy system the NCAA came up with. Not that those idiots ever would.
I'd sure take their last 10 years over ANY football program. Incredible success, at the highest level of the sport. And, they show damn few signs of letting up.

Of course, Bevo, so given that what's your guess of how many NCAA national titles would have been won by Bama if it had to compete for them rather than, AP , UPI, BCS, and Dr. Pepper titles ?

I think just about every school in the country (with few exceptions) would be willing to trade their coach for Saban.

My first thought would be a lot. "A lot" is pretty reasonable. Too bad we'll never know. The beauty of the championship divisions.......we 'know'. There is no speculating or guessing about NDSU's 5 consecutive NCAA FB titles or Mt Union's 11 total, for examples. Playing is better than voting Knowing is better than guessing
