College football’s four team playoff is the best postseason in all of sports.
What teams have the best and most realistic shot of getting to the playoff?

It's the most fraudulent in all of sports. Championship semi-finals should, never ever be determined by beauty contest elections, especially by electors not even affiliated with the governing body of the sport. National playoff semi-finalists should be determined by winners of national quarter-final elimination games....no voting required. Playing is light years better than voting. That cleared up....my wild guess for the 4 beauty contest winners to play in the DR. Pepper Invitational : Oklahoma, Alabama, Florida State and Southern Cal.......although ESPN will be trying to concoct another Meyer/Saban match up.

Not sure why, but the circus of March Madness draws us in every year. I don't like the format where #37, who was just average during the regular season, has a chance to be the "best" team - if you want a shot, be better than #37. It's a swap of entertainment versus "fairness".
The NHL playoffs are good, as is college baseball.
The NBA has morphed into a waiting process to see which superteam plays LeBron. Generally good at getting to the best team,,but a bit of a journey.
The NFL system allows enough underserving teams in to allow for one team to get hot during the playoffs (see the 2012 Giants at 9-7). MLB has that silly wild-card game that goes against the rest of their post-season format.
But college football - many teams can make it, but only the very good teams get in.
This year, I would say:
Tier 1:
Alabama tOSU
Tier 2:
FSU Clemson (could also be in the bubble tier, depends on getting some competent QB play) PSU USC
On the Bubble:
OK OKST Wash Mich
In Vegas terms, i'd place 90% on any of the above and 10% on the remaining field.

Pretty hard to argue with that list. I don't see any independents in the mix BIG - Michigan has a lot of losses but then again that got a coach who can deal with it. They need to get over the tOSU hump and they are loaded this year. Wiscy has a favorable schedule and I would consider them for the bubble. SEC - Alabama just seems to be above and beyond every one in the conference. Darkhorse would be Auburn with new QB and UGA has the schedule to get them there ACC - FSU seems to be the cream of the crop but Clemson and Dabo got it going. Can they do it with the massive talent losses in the skill positions. Candiates for the Bubble would be Miami as they seem to be on the rise but with a new QB. Louisville has the Heisman but a daunting schedule. B12 - Not sure if OK St is bubble or darkhorse. Texas with the talent and coaching changes could be bubble worthy. Keep an eye out on West Virginia. They always seem to have an explosive offense and are getting a upgrade at the QB position with Will Greer. PAC12 - USC and Washington are clear cut favorites. Don't see many other threats at the moment.

Bullshit. If they win every game 45-0, they would 100% be invited.

I'll respond to your broken record with my broken record - USF has a terrible non-conference schedule, they should beat everyone 45-0. San Jose St? Stony Brook?? Illinois is the strongest they play and they're probably the #11 or #12 team in the BIG. At least last year Houston played Oklahoma - if they ran thre table at least they would have beaten someone.
I will say this, Willie taggert did a great job there and I think you'll see Oregon back at the top of the Pac 12 in a year or 2 - he's a strong coach.

The Committee is considering several rule changes this year, including a one-year prohibition for any conference that fails to score in a CFP game 3 years in a row.

Name all the non cartel teams in the 19 year history of the BCS/CFP mythical champ systems that have been allowed to compete for one of these titles ? Now 45-0 for every game might be an exaggeration but you know what I mean. The Dr.Pepper Invitational championship is absolutely not for the entire FBS......TV brand Cartel teams only.
