In going 12-0 they endured all kinds of verbal abuse, with some saying they didn't deserve to make the Playoff even if they went undefeated. People complained about their schedule, which we're later coming to find, wasn't, as bad as people thought. 2017 Wisconsin might not be flashy, they are a gritty bunch of 3 star players who play hard, pound the ball and play good defense,,,,,but they just beat the ACC runner up practically on the road. I'll take it a step further, after the first quarter there were large stretches of this game they controlled on the road and after falling behind 14-3, they went on a 31-10 run. 2017 Wisconsin could have played with anyone and they are the latest example of a team, that may not have been as fast as an elite team should look, might not be as athletic....but they played well as a team. Time to give them their due

I wish Clemson had gotten Wisconsin...
I never bought Miami all year. Richt has some holes on that roster, but I think he will get it corrected over the next 2 years.

He's eating well and working out, at least his arms.

Another score of honor and integrity for sure.
Its nice to see that well coached toughness -intelligence - discipline can still occasionally be competitive with brainless, raw speed and athleticism. It's not real common in today's big time CF climate.

It's not real common in today's big time CF climate. I don't have time to elaborate but there are kids who actually do have brains as well as raw speed and athleticism. To label a program less honorable or a collection of brainless superior athletes due to a stereotype is unfair, in my opinion. But that's what makes this board appealing, we get to view others opinions.

There's a fine line between racism and reality with that argument.
Certain positions on the field don't require that much in the way of intelligence. That's not to say the people who play those positions are dumb, but being smart isn't necessarily a job requirement. If you give a coach a choice between a cornerback who is a 4.0 student, and one who runs a 4.4 40 yard dash, he's going to pick the second guy every single time. There just aren't that many guys out there who can run fast enough (and who have the agility to stay with a receiver) to play corner at the college level. So you end up making compromises.
It's more important to have a really fast guy (at some positions) than it is to have a really smart guy. Since there aren't enough with that level of speed to go around, when one becomes available, you want to get him even if he doesn't have great grades.
I'm sure the percentage of people who have the SAT scores to get into a good school, is the same regardless of how fast they run. Fast people, slow people, athletes and non-athletes. Maybe 10% of 18 year olds are smart enough to get into a school like Michigan. But probably only like 1% of 18 year olds can run fast enough to play the skill positions in Div 1 football. So that means that only like 1 out of 1000 are both fast enough and smart enough. And there are 100+ schools out there competing for those same kids. If you have to make a compromise, you do it with the academic standards. Because a cornerback with 4.7 speed is a guy who gets beat deep a whole lot.

Yeah I should've have left out the unfair "brainless". So am I a horrible bigot, Bevo ? Did you see the Miami kids dancing and flailing around when they were up by 14 ? Did you see the Wisconsin kids do any of that after starting to dominate them ? Class ( or lack of ) often identifies itself on a football field.

Some are pretty, some are strong. Almost no one gets it all. Even the ones who, apparently get it all, are messed up in their head....and they think they're missing something. I dont buy your "honor wins" Hen. I never have, if you notice, I seldom EVER comment on those threads. I think they are disrespectful. But, you're free to think that way if you want. I've seen LOTS of kids acting stupid.... From almost every school. Some more than others. But, NEVER was it every kid. ...

Appreciate all the good points, and certainly would recruit Hoya's 4.4 kid over the 4.7 kid every time.....especially if retaining my job depended on it ( which drives the big time CF climate these days)..it's called 'winning at all cost'. I'm one of the few CF fans that thinks college football should still have a little something to do with 'college' , therefore I admire programs that aspire to a little higher standard than the absolute bare minimum standards of NCAA eligibility and the variety of ways of even getting around those low standards. Now, I must admit that I don't have any hard evidence that the Wisconsin kids ( collectively ) are any brighter or more academically legitimate than the Miami kids so I regret used 'brainless' in that reference to that game. I'll be researching that. The recruiting pool of great athletes is light years more massive than the recruiting pool of great student-athletes out there so I will continue to admire coaches and universities that are mandated to compete in this big time college football within the context of ' higher standards'...guys like Shaw at Stanford or the service academies, for example, where they just can't bring in anything out there just because its athletically ultra talented. At the next and highest level of the sport (NFL ) I could care less about standards, intelligence, dumbth, academics etc. , although character standards would be nice. Turn Bevo's athletes with all "God's assorted gifts" loose. They should parlay those gifts into lucrative careers. All this is why I'm also in favor of a full fledged NFL minor league system that would provide opportunities for athletically gifted kids that might not have any interest or aptitude in higher education.
