As many comic books as I have read, I never heard that story. Pretty cool I knew that duck! It was during Cleveland's golden age....where quite actually a lot of famous figures literal and fictional got their start here. It was the 5th largest city in the Nation, it had more Fortune 500 companies than San Francisco and LA COMBINED and was described as the "Best Location in the nation." It's sports teams won (Browns won 7 Titles in 10 years in the AAFL and the NFL) Indians World Series title in '48 and AL Title in '54 and the Hockey team(Cleveland's never had an NHL team, but minor league) won 7 titles in 14 seasons. From 1930-1965 Cleveland had a very nice run......and then 1969 the fire hit.......all kinds of city corruption was discovered and it hasn't been that glamorous since. However the city has rebounded from the recession nicely and it's no longer anywhere near as bad as it was the early 90's......it's actually kind of a nice city now....imo

During some of the lean baseball years there was a little jingle.
Cleveland First in booze First in shoes Last in The American League
I thought it was pretty funny.

Today Cleveland's not that bad, although it was heavily the libs who brought it down in the 60's and it scares me that people haven't caught on today.

Crazy thing about the Cleveland Indians that people don't know, do to Major League's I&II is this, in the regular season they actually have a really good record.....the Indians all-time are 9,293–8,897. In between the 20-50's they were a really respectable franchise, then they had ALOT of lean years between the 60, and the 90's and they've kinda come full circle since 1994......they'd actually have a lot more AL Pennants and probably a few more WS, if not for the damn Yankees.
-I've heard the terrible towel originated from Steelers fans "stealing" the idea from Indians fans waving "Yankee Hankees" but I've never been able to verify that or not
