Trying to not get my hopes up for the newest Steven Spielberg movie, however I read the book and if the movie is half as good as the book it' going to be Fantastic. Usually really good books that they turn into movies... ...stink, but I like alot of Speilberg's movies so hopefully this one is a hit. One of the professional reviewers labelled it" Harry Potter for adults" I think the book is actually alot better than Harry Potter, but I've never really made it very far in the Potter books. It's a fun story and hopefully the movie delivers.

Yesterday I read a ranking of Spielberg's movies, from 1 to 38, I believe. This new one was well down the list but given Spielberg's work, that may not be all that bad.
The top ten were...
10. The Post 9. Saving Private Ryan 8. ET 7. Jurassic Park 6. Close Encounters of a Third Kind 5. The Color Purple 4. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 3. Jaws 2. Schindler's List 1. Raiders of the Lost Ark
I'm not so sure The Post, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, Close Encounters or Jurassic Park would make my top 10. Even Jaws is pretty corny if you watch it today.
I'd probably go....
1. ET 2. Schindler's List 3. Saving Private Ryan 4. Raiders of the Lost Ark 5. The Color Purple 6. Catch Me if You Can 7. Lincoln 8. Jaws 9. Bridge of Spies 10. 1941

Doc you disappoint me,how could you leave out maybe the best sci-fi film ever CEOTTK I found parts of Close Encounters boring but I have to say one of the greatest episodes of The Simpsons had a scene where Homer recreated the mashed potato sculpted scene - it was priceless. Homer was being 'called' to be a clown and he was sculpting a big top tent out of mashed potatoes while the family watched in fear.

So I was out of town for work Tuesday night and went to see 'Ready Player One'. It's really not my genre so I didn't have high expectations. It was entertaining, they spend a ton of time in the Oasis so a major portion of the movie is animated. I thought it was a bit long and impossible to appreciate all the visuals as they go by so quickly. But I have to say, it was a wonderful tribute to the 1980's with all the pop culture references - that was pretty cool and nostalgic. I didn't read the book so I have no idea how it measures up to that.

The book goes into much more detail, and I felt there were probably scenes were the movie could have attempted to explain things better( the future Cline created in his book, was actually much more bleak and that's why so many people went into the Oasis) and some scenes were corny.........but I enjoyed the movie as well. The scene with Stephen King's "The Shining" was probably one of my favorites in the movie.

Yeah, they played great homage to The Shining! I want to see Isle of Dogs next - my daughter saw it and really liked it.

On the plane ride to Shanghai (15 hours in coach! long story... ) I watched three movies:
Hitman's Bodyguard: With Ryan Reynolds and Samuel Jackson. I'm usually not a huge fan of shoot em up action flicks, but... this one had enough of a plot, and witty dialogue to keep my interest. It definitely kept me awake and engaged... good movie.
The Time Travelers Wife: Rachel McAdams and John Franco. This is a weird movie, with Franco's character popping in and out of different time periods, against his will. McAdams was REALLy good in this movie, but.. Franco was bland. He was supposed to be coming back at different ages, but... he ALWAYS looked and sounded the same. Still though, it was interesting enough to keep me watching. The filming was nice, and the characters were well developed... other than Franco.
The Disaster Artist: What a hoot. My son had been telling me about this movie. It's about a really ODD guy, who makes a movie that is SO BAD, it becomes a cult classic. It's a real story. Definitely a WEIRD show... but, good.

I haven't seen the Disaster Artist but my son loved it. I can't remember the bad directors name but its not Ed Wood. Franco was a shoo-in for an Oscar nomination until the sexual harassment charges started to surface.
