You all know the story, obviously. The movie focused more on the dynamics of Joe's family, the reporter who broke the story and the first abuse victim who came forward. Hard to conclude anything but Joe knew for a long time but I got the sense that he didn't comprehend just how sick and serious the allegations were. That or he just didn't want to know.
I have many PSU friends who defend Joe to the end. That's their choice. I don't have to rationalize or accept it because PSU is not my school. I tell them if you feel like Joe did all he could then that's your choice. But i'll also ask them this question. If it was your son in the shower with Sandusky after Paterno had a clear opportunity to stop Sandusky once and for all but decided to buck it up to the higher authorities, would you still feel like he did all he should have? To me, they (McQueary, Paterno and all the PSU administrators) failed every kid that was abused after they knew about the first one - which apparently dates back to 1976.
Having said that, I have no problems with PSU today. I give O'Brien and Franklin a lot of credit for coming in and cleaning up that mess. It just sickens me when people want to say that Joe got a raw deal because for all the good he did, he played a big role in failing those kids.

I watched part of the movie yesterday... couldn't stomach seeing the entire thing. They tried to make it look like Joe was blindsided... Like he was too involved in football planning to notice. But, once faced with the truth, Joe could look back and see things that were suspicious. That seemed bogus to me.

I have no sympathy for Joe, his family or anyone who thinks they got a raw deal. Putting the record of a tainted football coach above the lives of kids who were abused by a guy they could have put away a long time ago is sickening. That includes every PSU football player (Franco Harris, et al) who defend Paterno's legacy.

Watched it last night. I found it very disturbing at the end when someone called up to report that they were abused by Sandusky in 1976. This person went to Paterno and Paterno defended Sandusky. This documentary leads you to the conclusion that Joe knew what was going on and chose not to deal with it. If this is the truth and if I was a PSU grad I would want his name expunged from the university because what he chose not to do was despicable.
