What makes me mad is the NCAA did an extension investigation of Ohio State that season and basically found the only infraction was 5 kids getting free tattoos.....bowl ban I think Ohio State a title that year. I remember Phil Steele saying Ohio State would have been voted different had they been eligible for a national title

I will say this in Notre Dame's defense though....that happens in Super Bowls too though.......I love College Football, but one of it's biggest flaws is the so called "eye contest" 1992 Bama over Miami ring a bell? It's easy to say now Notre Dame was overrated and they probably were....but how many examples have we had that the "eye contest" isn't always correct?

The resume was solid. They were just poorly coached and that flaw was magnified against Saban.

What about BYU in 1985?

BYU rode a weak one game schedule to a National Championship.

I remember Phil Steele saying Ohio State would have been voted different had they been eligible for a national title I blame it all on Pitt's FG kicker who just had to make basically an extra point to beat ND in OT and he couldn't get it done. ND would have been exposed for the fraud that they were and we would have probably had a more competitive NC game. I will add that I enjoyed watching Brian Kelly get the crap beat out of him, tough.

Don't blame BYU..... and to answer the question : ALL the conference room beauty contest rankings.

The worst are undefeated teams, and of those, Penn St '94, and Auburn '04
Any postseason that has multiple undefeated teams when the season ends is flawed

I will say the 1973 Ohio State football team was one of the best to never win the NC. The only blemish on their schedule was a 10-10 tie AT Michigan. They outscored their opponents 413-64 over 11 games. They had 4 shutouts and held the opponents to a TD or less in three other games. The most they gave up all year was 21 points to USC in the Rose Bowl.
Notre Dame won the NC beating Alabama by a point in the Sugar Bowl. OSU and ND had three common opponents and Ohio State beat all three worse than ND did. Ohio State wound up #2. Michigan - whose only blemish was the 10-10 tie, couldn't go to a bowl game and finished #6. They outscored their opponents 330-68 (but didn't play a bowl game as mentioned). From 1972-74, Michigan went 30-2-1 and was never allowed to go to a bowl because the 0-2-1 was against Ohio State. The Big Ten eased their bowl restriction rule in 1975 basically due to Michigan's omission the previous 3 seasons.
