We had a great time in Dallas/Ft. Worth over the weekend. We stayed in Grapevine, which was holding their annual Grapefest Festival. cutre downtow area with lots of food and beverages. We watched the Bengals play Thursday night at a place called the Tap In - beer was cold but the food sucked. it didn't matter as it was fun to watch Bengals get out to a 2-0 start with a win over the Ravens.
On Friday we went to the Kennedy Museum and walked through the Texas School Book Depository. Kennedy's assassination is one of my earliest memories and the museum does a nice job of covering all angles of the fateful event. Looked out the window where Oswald took the shots, went down to the grassy knoll and stood on the X on the road where the limo was when Kennedy was hit. Obviously a sobering experience but as I said it's one of my earliest memories - glad we took the time to do it.
From the museum we drove over to Ft. Worth and visited the Stockyards, ate some brisket along with a few Shiners and headed back to Grapevine for another evening at the festival and dinner at a fantastic mexican restaurant. Saturday was all about the game - we drove over to Ft. Worth for Gameday and hung out at a TCU bar. Then over to Arlington for some more pre-gaming before heading into AT&T for the game. The stadium is pretty lush - we had great seats, Shellie Meyer came through for us! I suppose if you're not a fan of either team it was a great to watch. I have to admit when the targeting call was over turned (which was the right call) I was a bit concerned. They OSU went on a 20-0 run and all things were good in the universe again. I give TCU credit - they are a well coached team with great speed. OSU shot themselves in the foot a few times but nothing like the mistakes that sealed TCU's doom. It was a great atmosphere and I'm glad I made the trip!
Final analysis...
1. I hope TCU goes 12-1 - their fans were great and I wish them well. 2. Sucks losing Bosa - I hope he's back in 2 weeks but if not, one of our youngsters at DE is going to have to grow up, FAST. 3. Haskins may be the best throwing QB in Ohio State history, very poised and very accurate. He can put balls right where they need to be with tremendous zip.
4. TCU's QB was also impressive. It looked like he was just throwing the ball up for grabs a couple times but the throws were right where they needed to be, very accurate. 5. Dobbins/Webber is a great RB combo -they compliment each other well.
6. I hope Mack is over the severe case of the 'drops' - the sure TD he dropped on the first drive helped set the tone for a long night for him. He did finally break out of it and make a couple catches down the stretch - speaks volumes that Haskins stayed confident in him. 7. I love the Buckeye receivers - they come at you in droves. Campbell can fly, get him the damn ball.
8. Dre'mont Jones is a grown, ass man! He will be a first round draft pick next year.
9. I think OSU got stronger as the game went on - they frenetic pace TCU set may have worked against them.
10. Officiating is still a huge problem. Replay has set officiating back. If you want to use replay, make it a challenge situation like the NFL and call delay of game if you're wrong. The way replay effects the flow if a game is unfortunate.

Agree on the replay. Is out of hand. They need to copy the NFL challenge system.
Glad you had a good time. Game went about as I expected. As I said, TCU is used t playing against teams that are bigger than they are. They make up for it with speed, and good coaching. They shoot gaps, disrupt plays... And have linebackers who can cover some ground. Their offense is well-designed.
If you recall, many many moons ago, when Charlie Strong was on the way out, I had Gary Patterson at the top of my 'wanted' list. He gets more, with less. That's good coaching. But, Texas AD thought it to be bad form t steal from conference members.

Great read doc, thanks for sharing
I have a lot of respect for TCU and what they've accomplished as a program. They have really climbed the college football ladder despire not having resources like an A&M or state school
They have played and beaten a lot lf P5 schools
We'll see if they can get past Texas this weekend
Ohio State has to start getting ready for Penn State? Have you been to Happy Valley doc? I have heard bad things about Penn State fans

Ohio State has to start getting ready for Penn State? Have you been to Happy Valley doc? I have heard bad things about Penn State fans I've been to every BIG stadium but Penn State, Iowa and Minnesota. Penn State is quite a drive from where I live as are Iowa and Minnesota. I made the drive to Madison a while back and it was a wonderful atmosphere - very gracious and hospitable fans, I guess i just lucked out because I've heard horror stories from other friends who have ventured to Wisconsin but I didn't encounter anything bad.
Penn State fans are delusional. They have an inferiority complex when it comes to Ohio State plus they think the BIG Ten is biased against them. And every year the game is played at Penn State it's a night game and they do that annoying white out - i really have no desire to go and be a part of that. In fact, if i ever do go to Penn state I think i'll go to see a team other than Ohio State play them. i'll still root against PSU but won't be nearly as disappointed if they win.
As for the game next week - we ned to get someone ready to replace Bosa - that's a big loss - NEXT MAN UP!!!

Our posse decided to do the Stadium tour over the Kennedy Museum. The stadium tour was about $30 but was well worth it. They walked us around the main concourse and talked about the structure which feels more like a high end convention center where you can have receptions.... They walked us through the boxes and then we got to go through the Cheeleaders Locker Room and the Cowboys Locker Room which would later be occupied by the Buckeyes. All of the lockers were completely empty with the exception of Zeke and Rod Smith. They both had a Buckeye sitting in their locker. Then they took us through the press room and then on to the entrance way to the field. Once we got to the field they let you hang out there as long as you want. When we were their they were in the process of painting the OHIO in the end zone. We did our standard OHIO family\friends pictures on the turf and people there thought it was the greatest thing.
We went to Texas Live that night by the stadium and was a pretty cool place to hang out. It was one of the places where you have about 10 bars in one. We had our 17 year old daughters with us and they had a place to foosball\ping pong\beer pong.. The only problem is that it was a 3 hour wait to eat anywhere.
We opted against the Game Day and made it over to the stadium about 3. We made some friends with some Buckeyes and just hung out there before the game. Our seats were at the 20 yard line about 15 rows up in the upper tier. I liked sitting up high because you can see the plays develop. The scoreboard was amazing and every now and then you catch yourself watching the scoreboard over the game. Overall a great game to watch especially with the Buckeyes turning it on in the third quarter. I would definitely head back to Dallas for a game.
