Denzel Ward was an All-American at Ohio State and the #4 draft pick in the 2018 NFL Draft by his hometown, Cleveland Browns. He intercepted Ben Roethisberger twice in his first regular season game. He created a bit of a stir last December when he opted out of playing in the Cotton Bowl. Today he's being praised on the Buckeye fan forum for this article which he wrote in tribute to his late father.
I think there were many people who felt Ward was being selfish by not playing in the bowl game. The thing is, you never know the story behind the person. This provides a little insight. This could be any kid on any sideline, they all have stories. That's why I get a little irritated with the 'games of honor' posts (no offense Hen) and talk about football factories. They're all kids. For some this is their shot at providing for their family. Ward's article is truly a beautiful tribute to his dad - he gets it. Somewhere his dad is proud!
