On my flight home from Germany, I watched a movie about the 85 Bears. If you're a football fan, I HIGHLY recommend this movie. It will remind you what NFL football USED to look like.
The movie tries to make the case that the '85 Bears were the 'best NFL team of all time'. Maybe. I'm confident they were the best DEFENSE that ever played. Best team? A case can be made.
The movie is largely comprised of quotes, from bunches of famed Chicago fans. The bites from Obama, and Rahm Emmanuel are hard to take, but... otherwise, it's good.
There's a lot of Steve McMichael in the movie... which, I love because, I actually knew him in college. McMichael and Bill Acker, both All-SWC Defensive linemen, came from the tiny south Texas town of Freer. One of my college roommates was also from Freer, and.. of course, knew them. My roommate was Trainer for the football team, and got us invited to football parties. McMichael was always there, and ALWAYS crazy. We all spent a weekend together in Freer, at the annual rattlesnake roundup.. which, should be called, the annual "How much beer can you drink in 24 hours" contest. McMichael would have been the clear winner. He was, without question, the SCARIEST human being I ever met. Just 100%, absolutely, certifiable NUTS. On that Bears team? He was just "one of the boys".
The best part for me was, the memories that movie brought back. In 1985, my wife and I had been married 2 years.... no kids yet. It was a happy time. Until just after the Bears celebrated their title. Two days later, the Challenger explode. 10 days later, I got laid off from Dow. I had forgotten how close those events were together. It was a traumatic time for us. I would have lost my mind then, if not for MamaBevo. She was, my ROCK.
After I got home, we watched the movie together. She liked it too.
It's fun to see what REAL hits look like.
