I was at a wedding Saturday night and found myself listening to the Penn State radio broadcast for the the 4th quarter as we drove back from the reception. those guys were pretty giddy when the Nittany Lions went up 12 with 8 minutes to play and I nearly had to pull my car over and vomit i was so disgusted. But then, Ohio state scores a quick TD and you could sense the tension in their voices - certainly 2017 couldn't happen again - blow a double digit lead in the 4th quarter?
What the Buckeyes did on Saturday night was pretty impressive -they were obviously aided by a horrible 4th and 5 play by Penn State but that doesn't take away from the fact they put together 75 and 96 yard scoring drives in the final 8 minutes of the game - in that environment I can't imagine a more satisfying feeling than to hear that crowd go absolutely silent on OSU's game winning TD and that strange 4th down play.
I absolutely hate the White Out. They pull it out against Ohio State every other year. It's an insane environment and the games always come down to the wire. Urban is 3-1 at Penn State and 6-1 overall vs Penn State so he's obviously doing something right. In BIG regular season games his record is now 48-3. Surprisingly, Penn State actually has a losig record in their White Out games.
Fortunately we're not traveling to Iowa this week - they can't afford a let down like last year. the Bucks play home games against Indiana and Minnesota before traveling to Purdue later this month - that game will most likely be closer than expected - I guess we'll see.
The one thing I'd like to see is a few more plays with Haskins running the ball - just to keep the defense honest. Barrett was such a threat running the ball that you had to respect that aspect of his game - Haskins hasn't really been asked to run so the defenses focus on the running backs. At the same time, I love the way Dwayne spreads the ball around and when his receivers get it in space they can score on every play. And I have to give credit to all the receivers for their blocking skills - watch the TD's over again and you see receivers all over the place blocking their asses off.
5-0 after September with road wins in Texas and Happy Valley, not a bad start!
