team was looking to replace its coach and you could have any current coach, who would you pick? What would your top 5 choices be?
I think Urban Meyer would definitely be my #1 pick, the guy has a 46-3 record at Ohio State and has yet to lose a regular conference game is 3.5 seasons. He also has 3 NC's. The next 4 would be...
2. Nick Saban - Alabama 3. Mark Dantonio - Michigan State 4. David Shaw - Stanford 5. Paul Johnson - Georgia Tech
Saban's record speaks for itself. I love that Dantonio and Shaw play the power style of football. Dantonio has turned MSU into a top ten team consistently winning double digit games year after year while Shaw took over for Harbaugh and has kept Stanford at the top of the Pac 12. Johnson may be a stretch to some but I love option football and wonder what he could do if he was at a place that could truly compete for the top recruits in the country. He would need to hire a top notch defensive coordinator, though.
What do you think Bevo - I've put together another list!

The listonator!
No arguments with your list - Johnson would be a stretch - the scheme / talent can get you by east directional state and the numbers can be gaudy.
Against strong defenses not so much. His scheme really stresses the opposing safeties - safeties cheat up on the LOS to take away the pitch and force everything back inside - GT pulls a pass down the seam.
Last year he had a very good defense to go with it, and two tall WRs to throw to.
Moving away from GT would also mean getting rid of the calculus requirement, so more dumbth / speed could be recruited (in before Hen)!

I'd rather have Art Briles or Gary Patterson than Paul Johnson.... or David Shaw, I want to see Briles beat a top ten team outside the Big XII - if he has I don't remember it. Gary Patterson is a good choice - his teams at TCU have been very consistent and have had some big wins. He also gave our Bengals the red rifle - Andy Dalton!

I'd take David Shaw out of that bunch you mentioned, Doc, but another David...coach Cutcliffe would be my first choice. Now, if 'winning' was the only thing that mattered gotta tale Urban.
