DIVISIONS I think at some point divisions in college football will go away. Matching the top 2 teams for the conference championship will take over, and scheduling within the conference will be more beneficial. This year actually worked out ok for the most part, but without divisions, teams get to play more of the conference on a regular basis. Ultimately, this will make conference play more exciting.
RANKINGS AND THE COMMITTEE The committee is awful. After next weekend, when Ohio State and Oklahoma win their respective games, a great schism will occur, like a scratch on a record. Then we'll hear really stupid crap when Ohio State and Oklahoma are dissected and put under the microscope. The resumes? The eye test? weak wins, losses, etc.
Just bring back Rankings....a standardized set of computer rankings so that everyone knows and can point to a real reason why a team is going to the playoff. Is Ohio State ahead? Is Oklahoma ahead? They are both good teams. An OBJECTIVE set of rankings should be used to pick the 4 teams. Not an idiotic committee that changes stances on issues every year. The committee is essentially the beauty contest idea on steroids. They told the Big XII they needed a 13th data point, and then preceded to pick teams that didn't win their conference in subsequent years.
Get rid of the committee

Watching highlights this morning on ESPN, the talking heads (Dinich, in particular, who always tries to be edgy) was slopping this basic storyline.
"What will the committee do" she exhaled breathlessly. Ohio state has the "best" win, but also the "best" loss.
And of course the transitive property: But Oklahoma only gave up half the yards to TCU that Ohio State did.
Pure garbage yapping.

I think after a few years of committee speak and think, people have lost what the talking points are...
They used to be resumes...the resume argument benefits Oklahoma IMO, as they would avenge their only loss. However, I believe the committee will choose Ohio State and claim they are a more "complete team", despite losing bad to Purdue

If Oklahoma wins next week they’re in. The #5 team can’t beat the #9 team and fall behind the #6 team should they beat #20. They just better hope Georgia doesn’t beat Bama because that will mean 2 SEC Teams again. Clemson vs Bama, Georgia vs ND.

Reasonable concerns, Evil. Of course this beauty contest committee idea is the dumbest way of presenting a championship playoff in all of team sports. However, turning over the system to computer geeks is better but still not good.
Best solution for a legitimate FBS national championship :
""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""
Expand the playoff field to include all 10 regular season champions and add 6 worthy 'at large' teams determined by a formula ( most likely the strongest conference runner-ups )
Actually 'PLAY' eight first round games . Then actually 'Play' four quarterfinal games. Then actually 'Play' two semi-final games. Then the two survivors actually 'Play' in the championship game.
It will take 15 total games and 3 weeks to yield a true national championship game match up....and all of the FBS gets a fair shot.. Like the FCS and other championship divisions limit the regular season to 11 games.
This non beauty contest system would yield a' bracketology' excitement to match anything in sports, imo. plus championship integrity....and it will make more money for all than 39 post season exhibition games.
Playing is better than voting

If this was a legitimate championship sport OU OSU and several others would be worthy of a shot and who to exclude wouldn't be a debatable issue. If you want to eliminate such teams eliminate them in first round football games, not idiotic conference room votes. Expand and include and quit voting and start playing like the rest of the sports world does.

They both have a loss, a couple of butt-ugly wins, and serious flaws in their teams. Teams that DESERVE To play for the title this year are (so far): 1) Bama 2) Clemson 3) Notre Dame 4) UCF And, yes.. I know UCF's schedule has sucked.... and, they missed a game due to a hurricane, but... WTF? They've won, what? ; 23 in a row? They've also lost their starting QB. This would be a PERFECT time for the committee to "let them in" and get clobbered. (Theoretically, of course). Four STILL proves to be the "Correct" number of teams.

Let be a homer here and point out another problem College Football is the only sport that doesn't treat a loss for exactly what it is......a loss. Whether it's 29 points to Purdue or 3 points to Texas, it's the only sport where we debate how well you dressed up a turd. I mean a loss is a loss.....when the Houston Astros played in the World Series a couple years ago they had multiple games where they lossed by six runs or more.....Golden State has lossed multiple games by 30+ points in all of it's championship seasons! We try to dress it up and debate it....but some times even good teams just don't have it, and lose inexplicably. I remember New England lost 31-0 to the Bills the year Tom Brady and Bill won their first Super Bowl to a 7-9 Buffalo Bills team in the first game of the season. College Football is the only sport no matter how much I love it...we debate how well you looked in a loss, I kinda think who cares? If the name of the game is winning if you lose by 30 or 1...…...it's still an L. - That said in terms of Oklahoma and Ohio State let me say this....I think Ohio State has the higher ceiling, because when they are ON, and they play LIKE THAT against Michigan with pretty decent defense, amazing offense and good special teams......they could compete with Alabama or Clemson and possibly shake up the playoff by beating them. In 2014 The Buckeyes looked good but not special until it all clicked in the Michigan State game....if Ohio State has figured out it's issues they just might be good enough to win the whole thing...….THAT SAID Oklahoma if they beats Texas has the better resume and should get the 4th spot because they've been more consistent.....but if we're gonna point out Ohio State's warts....let's not forget it took everything Oklahoma had to put away Kansas. Oklahoma was also very very fortunate vs Oklahoma State.....Ohio State's been Jeckyl and Hyde too, but Oklahoma hasn't made this a slam dunk decision because of their play either...especially defensively.
College Football should and I believe eventually has to go to 8.....4 is to flawed

Unless Oklahoma loses I expect them to be the 4th team. Interestingly, they do get a bogie - they get to play the team that beat them again and avenge their loss - just like Georgia last year. Georgia lost by close to 30 points last year to Auburn but got a rematch in the SEC championship game - a week after the Tigers best player was injured against Alabama.

And I say little difference between the Ohio State win over Maryland, and Oklahoma's wins over Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Kansas all those teams are mediocre and 2 of 3 Oklahoma should've lost!
